Ipod Itrips

  Octavia vRS
Hi all

Am looking to link my Ipod to my car and my mate has a Golf GTi plus also ipod and itrip and it works fine not bad quality for the money he paid. Any one use a iTrip on there clio ? If so any good or will I be wasting my money.

Cheers

in all honesty, using an iTrip is a waste of time, i'd much rather get a unit that can support the input from the iPod

having used one, i do not recommend the iTrip

Only option for standard hu is something like an iTrip unfortunately, not sure if anyone has managed to sort out an aux-in cable for standard hu's yet.

My itrip is OK, its not great but it works reasonably well for £20 ish.

Oddly though it works fine in the Clio, but was really crap in a Pathfinder I had last week.

I'm not too fussed on quality or anything, doubt I'd notice lol.

Anyone got any links as to the cheapest place online to get an iTrip??

Bought one of these (Link) myself, works ok when stationary but when you get moving the quality gets bad and starts cutting out, periods of time where all you get its static, thats at its worst though. Its ok if you only trundle around for a couple of minutes in the car but can really get annoying if your on a long journey. Finding the best place to put the ipod aswell is abit tracky, mainly used to put mine in the ash tray (perfect fit for ipod mini) but found the best transmission from around the passenger seat area. Don't know if the aerial being at the back on the clio makes any difference to other cars.

Sold it in the end and now have my ipod hooked up the the processing unit of my satnav that takes an AV input signal.

Dension now have an FM Modulated Ice Link set up which plugs into the ariel socket of your HU.Fitted one to my 172 Cup and works fine.Cost me about £75.00 from Dabs.Does not operate from the remote stalk on the steering wheel but does charge the ipod and you still have CD changer connection.Dont think these have been out long and not well advertised but Dabs had them a few months ago. They are called Ice Link FM.
I have a Black I Trip which never seemed to work on my ipod or my mates which i purchased from the states and has hardly been used.If anyone wants to try one you can have mine for a fiver inc P&P.Its just sitting here boxed and gathering dust !

the only FM transmitter worth getting is the AirPlay. got mine off ebay for about £20, and had a digital display so you can chose the radio frequency.. means u will get a clearer reception etc. was really good value for money, but i ended up going for the pioneer ipod adaptor thing, alot better!

So i'm presuming you have tried and tested every deriative of FM modulation?

The Dension Ice FM is pretty much as good as it gets as far as a non-hardwired method is concerned.

200CUP thats because it's from the us mate...it's like buying hu's from the us...don't work!

Well they do work, but on limited stations due to their radio increments increasing by 0.5, and ours tend to be based on 0.3 afaik.

Dave+Ozzyo, you are both right as my ipod is a uk model with a US itrip but it does work with very limited range of about 6 inches !!!

yeah mate, i didnt want to bother with all the hard wiring, so decided to go for an FM transmitter, means i could have easily took it out incase i sold my clio (which i did about a month later)

i found that the AirPlay was the best vfm. and seemed good quality reception compared to the others

i wasnt tryin to argue that the dension ones are no good, i just thought that £70 is a fair bit more than £20, and the AirPlay is also alot more portable, its only about 1.5cm square.. sorry if i offended you, lol, but like i said, i ended up going for a hard wired pioneer adaptor instead when i changed my car.
