is a remap findable??

  Honda & VW
In terms of insurance, if it wasn't declared can it be picked up on?

Also would Renault's warrenty become void after a remap?

Would be near impossible to find unless you were specifically looking for it.

The warranty would be void if they found it.

In a second insurnace specilaist can find it.

As for warently depends usually they cannot tell they can overwrite the maps if neccessary.

If you plug your car into something like a RSTuner the very first page that openes tell you what maps have been ever uploaded to your ecu and the currect map being used. So i would imagine the same would happen if Reno or i insurance company plugged it into there software the same thing would happen.

Someone I know has a bmw remapped took in back under warranty for a clutch they noticed the rev limit was higher and they still did it but apperently the guy was a geezer. Down to there discretion at the end of the day.

If you crashed the car wrote it off badly etc would a remap and things like the cars mileage be recoverable from the ECU?

They would be, but why wud an insurance company go to that sort of bother? It'd hardly be a standard thing to check the ECU to c if it was remapped?

How is an insurance specialist going to find out in a second? They won't find out...
They plug there PC into the OBD or ECU depending on car etc and check the engine maps its getting more cmmon these days for them to check and refuse payouts etc.

Its not down to there discression its down to there rish they'd have to prove the remap was responsible for the failure and then again the garage probable won';t care as they ring BMW UK and ask if its ok to change the clutch etc and they'll just agree its difficult to prove a cltch faied due to a few more maps and for the bad PR and effort it woudl take they'll often just agreed for the garage to chnage it. The garage dopn't care if the owner or BMW pays realy if anytthing BMW paying is better as the customer thnks the garage are doing them a favour plus BMW don't care to much as a clutch isn't that expecsive if it keeps the customer coming back for more cars.

Yep. depends on car but milage etc can be on CLios milage is on the dasdhboard not ECU.

Yep mine was checked after a crash a few years back i suspect.

It is more often checked than you think particualy on turbo petrols and diesle due to the big gains possible.

LOL I was waiting for someone to say that!! I asked exactly the same question to him.

He drives his BMW very hard and it was only slipping when it was hot, he dropped it off and they phoned and said "sorry sir we cannot find a fault" His reply was "your not trying hard enough."

So when they cam back and he went to the dealership to discuss the mechanic asked him why it revved harder there was a lot of   But he wasnt bothered and did the work anyway. But like edde says hes now going to be buying an M5 so it worked!

I work in a vauxhall dealership and we have a company who remap our new diesels and vxr's and to a vauxhall garage are undetectable as the chip , serial codes are all the same all that has been altered is the binary codes, mercedes and bmw locally offer the same service. No problems on the warranty as even though it might show that the ecu has been accessed it doesnt show what been done, plus it common to install updates to the ecu to cure faults and common problems. Dont know if renault is the same?
