Is it common

My Mothers MY02 172 has developed a rattle. When i say rattle, i mean that when the boot is shut, you can grab the handle a physicaly move the whole boot about 3 or 4mm.
The problem sees to be the catch.
I was just wondering if its a common issue?

I had a similar prob on my rt. The plastic bit that the book locks onto was loose. I unpopped the rivet holding the plastic cover on, popped off the plastic cover, tightened up the two screws, reassembled and voila, problem solved

No, Never heard of that problem before and I too have read most of the 172 releated problems posted on here.

Everything is tight, i think the play is in the catch itself

This may not help as you say everyting is tight, but my car developed a similar fault. The part of the latch that is attached to the main body of the car was loose and rattling. Tightened it up myself - no probs since.

As it happens noticed the same thing with mine today. The big gold screw that attaches the catch to the car seemed to be tight so I took the boot trim off and it turned out it was loose after all. Tightened it up and its ok now.
