Is it just French...

  172 cup
cars that are crap??

I used to drive a ford before the Clio, the ford was over 10 years old, the clio is 7.

I never had to spend much on the Ford only things you'd expect for the up keep of it.

The Clio over the past couple of months has cost me £350 approx, that was for the brake fluid leaking, cambelt and service. It cost me £250 last June for the MOT failure which was suspension. It also cost me £130 to have the electric motor on the window sorted (which has just started going funny again)

Its really starting to p*ss me off now, Ive been wanting to sell if for a while but things keep going wrong with it and making it impossible. Ive lost soooo much money on it. I was wanting to get a 172/182 but Im starting to have serious doubts now as I just get the impression Clio's are pants.

Rant over.

I had 2 clios over 3 years, didnt replace anything mechanically, well ok I did change the enginein the 182 but that was my fault. Sounds like youv just been a bit unlucky

Clio's: They are s**t.

But I still love them. Despise all other Renaults though. Biggest pile of crap car manufacturer going.

I'm on my third Renault and all three have been bulletproof tbh, even the 5 turbo! You either A bought a nail, or B havnt maintained it IMO.

Mine's done over 46k now and aside from servicing all I've spent on it is oil top ups and tyres (lots of fronts lol) not so much as a brake pad has been changed.

  Titanium 182
TBF a few stuff has started popping on mine but a lot of it is my fault too, its a case of you pay more at the start and less throughout the lifetime for a VW/ford etc or you pay less at the start and more to maintain fiat/renault etc

I feel that I have maintained it tbh, I havnt had it serviced in fairness but I never had the Escort serviced.

Nope the crout bus broke this morning! He who said'th Crout was reliable was lying!

Never serviced my fiesta either! Tank it was :D

Am on my second Clio, first one had no real issues, just an anti roll bar link and a coolant hose. This one is too soon to tell, but warranty = win

PMSL! I love the logic.

So the only time your car sees a garage is if something goes wrong or if needs an MOT?

I arent sure a 1*2 is a wise buy for you..

Tbh id say my 182s been reliable but i do get it serviced regularly and i keep ontop of it myself by doing preventitive maintenance as and when i think its required.

I have spent at least £1500 on mine in the 8 months of owning it, but I knew when I brought it that id be sorting all the stuff on it because of the mileage! Everythings almost done now so the ride is getting better. Still go out in it and it gives me a smile reagrdless of cost!

I think if something is going to go wrong it will no matter what car, alot of people say to me why have you got a french car I just think is more myth really :)

LMFAO @ this thread... how can you not service a car... probably why your car is so s**t because the previous owner never serviced it, so basically, ironically YOU GOT OWNED!

  Saab 93 Aero Wagon
Mine has cost me a fair bit in parts but most of the labour has been done by me so i've saved a packet.
They aren't renowed for their build quality...hell they are infamous for it. Like anything Italian from the 80's/90's.

Woohoo. Buy another model of car then use their owners club instead ;)

Do you not think any 7 year old car will have its problems?

  Clio MK 4
the thing i have found with my 172 is the cv boots are f**king fragile. i've replaced 3 in a year and a half. and i think its gone again grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  Iceberg 172
No, the Italians are as bad as the French. It seems that from a nationality perspective you can either have cars which are fun to drive (French/Italian) or cars with quality build (German/Swedish/Jap) - but not both!

I've had an Impreza and a Celica as well as Alfas and the Clio....... and the Latins win it hands down for driving memories every time.

LOL @ the OP's servicing comment  :clown:

  Qashcow
ive never understood this tbh, people moaning about how much the car has cost you in the last few months....

cambelt change....... you knew the day you purchased the car it would need doing at some time in its life

suspension...... made by an outside company who also make suspension for other manufacturers!

electric window motor also made by sub contractor, not renault

this french car is the cheapest and most reliable out of all the german, japanese and other branded french cars ive ever owned.

ever serviced a skyline ;)
