Is it just me or does everyone feel physically sick at the mention of a cam belt...

Just found out how much it costs to replace, and how much a new engine costs if it fails... and then got told about the other bits that need changing too when you get it done... talk about a s**t sandwich!

I'd love to know how the garage makes it look so amazing, and makes it drive so perfectly on the test, and then all the way back to your house before things start breaking!!!!!!

If u need one, i have a 182 lump with 90k on it in the shed. 300 quid and its yours ...

I'll keep you in mind... but the one I've got is still ok at the moment touch wood...

Now I've said that I'm scared to drive it!

Don't rev the nuts off it till its done. Did you check if it had been done before you bought it?

error.... the most important thing when buying an RS is to check the cambelt history.

Get it done as soon as you can. If you go to a specialist, it's a bit kinder on the pocket and you'll get a better service. Reno dealers have been known to **** things up on RS cars.....

Supposing I was looking at 2005 car on 49k with no belt history at all.......would I be daft to drive 150mile home with it?

Getting it done when I get home is no issue my next door neighbour works for R-Sport in Wimbledon ;-)

You should be fine, the change time is 5 years or 72,000 miles, whichever is first.

You'd be incredibly unlucky to have it fail on the way home.

BUT everyone thinks/assumes its from date of first registration, no, its 5years from new, no one EVER thinks about this

you could have an 04 plate car that was new in 02, you'll be 2years late getting your belt done

my belt's cost me £150 only because the dephaser went after 2 weeks of having the car, so the garage paid for it minus the cost of a new cam belt. I thought I would have had alittle more time before they needed doing as the car only had 57k on the clock, but then again it was over due by a year on the age of the car.

Thats why I'm reluctant to agree it......I will set it on fire if it snaps on my way home lol
