Is my 172 clutch gone soon??

Today, after 30mins of driving, I suddenly found the clutch is a bit slipping when change from 1st to 2nd. Also I feel lack of power. A little bit of engine speed increase, but vehicle speed does not increase.

My 172 had only done 30,000miles. I never thought I have to change the clutch so early. Or anything can cause similar problem???

How much does it cost for both parts and labour to change a clutch for 172???

Thanks!

Sounds like its dieing, it depends how you drive as to the life of a clutch, in my old car it did about 40k on the origonal clutch id had it for 7k then it need replacing, at this point i put my special engine in it on a standard box and clutch with about 50bhp more and that clutch errrmm didnt last long!!

Althought thats completly irrelevent!!

My mate who used to have a ford escort cant drive for shite he very abusing with his clutches and had 3 in 60k!

A clutch kit will prob be around 100 and all in prob somwhere around 250-300

Thanks, is there any special tool for changing the clutch on 172?
What's the difference between the Group N clutch and the PADDLE CLUTCH KIT from K-Tec?? Anyone fit any one these before?

at about 3-40mph put it into 5th gear and floor it and see if it slips, do you have a high bite point or stiff pedal?

mine went after 116,000 on my 1.2 16V, clutch was £60 RRP although i got it for £40 because i know the guy in the parts dept, then my mate fitted it for £200 which was cheaper than renaults £450 quote for clutch and fitting.

you won't need a paddle unless you're running silly power

I got my Clio 172 when it is around 20,000mile on clock. And I think the clutch bite point is a little higher than before. Stiff pedal but got used to, I thought it is normal fro Clio 172. My friend has a MK1 and it is stiff too. Even it is 30,000miles on clock now, but since I stop and go, stop and go all the time due to traffic. Plus I really need time to get used to with the clutch's pick up point when it is so stiff. I do treat my clutch nicely but still, I may need to train more. I used to drive Ford Ka for 3 years and nothing wrong with the clutch. I think it is another story on much higher power Clio 172.

Well, other than the friction disc and pressure plate, do I need to change the release bearing as well??? Can anyone tell me the part number for all these parts?? And is there any non-genuine clutch for Clio 172??? How much are they? Any shop near Blackburn area? I am from far east and my friend from UK is coming to visit me in Xmas. Maybe he can help out.

Really look forward to hear from you, thanks!

The clutches are known to be fragile on the clio sport aswell as the box.

When you get a clutch kit all three components will be in it, plate, friction disk and bearing. Always change the bearing as it may fail with the new clutch and then you have to pull your car apart aswell for the saving in money its not worth it, it could also solve your stiff clutch.

Im sure a clutch kit could be had from places other than renault they will be of the same quality/make just sold from trade shops such as general traffic etc which is in Bolton think theer are a few dotted around. Matt or j3ond runs a brakers in accrington but i think he also sells new parts and might be able to help you out.

The clutch kits are around the 100 mark i would of thought from renault its prob 150ish
