Good news today too:

Virgin has confirmed that its top tier of broadband service will be upgraded to a 20Mbps downstream speed across its network by June.

Some limited trials of 20Mbps service have already been undertaken by the cable operator. Virgin's top tier "XL" broadband service currently offers a downstream speed of 10Mbps.

"As an end-to-end network owner, cable has inbuilt advantages in the quality of broadband service that we offer," the company said in its financial results statement today. "Customers can receive consistent speeds no matter where they live on our network and a top speed of 10Mb is available throughout our broadband addressable areas. We will be increasing this to 20Mb in June and we are also currently conducting a residential trial of a 50Mb broadband service."

Whohoo if its true.. im on 10mbit as it is.. but to be honest I would gladly stay on 10mbit if they would upgrade the upload by a decent amount !

50mbits @ home is crazy.. i use 100/1000 at work and to be honest for most of what I do it 'feels' the same speed as at home on the 10mbit... even download from all but the best servers hang around the 10mbit area at work.

Heard on another forum I'm on that they are trialing it with certain people in Preston at the moment.

I can't see it working fully yet, not on current equipment, as I know in my area, the UBR is over-subscribed as it is.

Also been rumours of VM making a 'sin bin' where if your using all your bandwidth over a certain period of time, you get limited to your speed for a few hours.
Wouldn't surprise me as NTL have already done this before, and they also implemented that 1gb a day rule a while back (think they stopped it tho'), despite what speed your connection is on...

Well, this is a total f**king joke, the fuking jokers put the price up from £22 to £25 in January, and have now got rid of 2 of the 7 or 8 chanells that I watch.

Anyone think we'll get a discount.

There was a price rise accorss the board in January, depending on what package you have, so they have increased revenue by £12m p/month (assuming £3 for 4 million customers) and the f*****s still can't keep Sky1 and Sky Sports News.

There are only a few things on TV I like to watch...the only one that is on BBC is top gear, the rest of them (24, Lost, Prison Break) I download and watch when I want to without the adverts. Why get angry with money-grabbing megalomaniacs?
