Is the CEL meant to be lit when the key is turned in the ignition when all other lights are on?

Hey guys,

Just bought a new ph1 172 and I just realized that all lights besides the CEL turn on when the key is turned in the ignition? Is this normal for 172's?

I am a bit weary that some people unplug the CEL light bulb so that the light doesn't light up when there is an issue that throws a CEL.

i think early 2000 ph1172 don't have the light turn on. Because i had the same problem but my y reg 2001 light comes on

Thanks for your reply. Mine is a 2001 ph1. So it must mean the CEL has been unplugged?
