audi a4 estate (i think it was an a4 anyway cant remember), whole front end to bits bumper off, lights out everything pissed me off that one

Ferrari 355. 20 odd hour job according to Ferrari. Engine out as the belt is at the front of the engine, behind the cabin.

Not that i've done one, or need to worry about the pitfalls of Ferrari ownership anytime soon!

As said fiat coupe turbo is a big job, engine out. I remember my 205gtis wasn't an easy 1 either.

Coupe 20vt is not engine out job, Fiat may charge you £1000 and tell you that but its about 2 hrs labour at a Fiat specialist.

100% right mate you can drop engine mount giving you more room!
Does any1 know how many 'book' hours is the job on a 182?

did a megane DCi today.......which was nice. How do they put an engine in a clio, and there's plenty of room, and in a much bigger car, there's fag paper gaps around the thing

coming back to this. Been thinking about dailys and an A4 2.5TDI V6 Quattro crossed my mind (an older one).

Check this looks a hard cambelt job to me, Worse still, Imagine if you had thermostat failure, which is not uncommon, and had to dig through all 18 (ish!) belts to find it!!

mk1 mondeo diesel? 6 hour /gearbox out iirc

:S i put 2 x sets on my old one?! they have 2 belts, pump belt and cambelt. there not a big job.

Worst i have personally done is a vectra / calibta V6. so many f**king tensioners / guides to adjust.

audi A4, ok once you have done a few.

V6 clio, took a while, but didnt struggle on anything, left the engine in.

172's are a childs play when you have done a few!!

did my mates suzuki sj413 in about 10 mins, take the fan off, cut the belt in half width ways, slide half off, put new belt half on to match, cut remainder off and push on :)

Agree, just about nowt left at the front!
As posted probs ok after a few

  Dodgy one
Done an engine change on one of them older A4s which had died of black death, turned out the engine the customer got to replace it was from an automatic and a later model :dapprove:

Lots of swapping and changing bits, in it went, fired first time and still running about.

When i looked at the belts it doesnt look too bad once its all stripped down, theres more space than a lot of cars lol, This engine had new belts on i found so it dodnt need doing :approve:

But it ate my hand a few times getting the b*****d out :rasp:
