Is the Clio a girls car

Erm...are you really sure?:p

I hope youve actually seen and been for a ride in a 16v/Williams! They dont make em like they used to you know...only the boot and doors are the same as a normal original Clio you know! Proper Group A Rally pedigree: they raced the 1.8s then the 2.0s (hence the Williams homologations) up against all the Turbo 4WD nutters like the early Scoobs. :D

Well if you say that the Micra and the Ka are girls cars, you can think again, because I for one wouldnt be seen in either EVER! Horrid things!

Have to disagree with you Nick, as most KAs and Micras are driven by

female schoolteachers most of whom are terrified of fast cars.

one thing that bugs me about the clio (1) is that the horn is in a girly position, should be steering wheel mounted, preferably in the centre. I often dont bother using it cos i always fumble to find it.

OK before i get a sl*gging, IMHO i think that manufacturers design small cars to be town cars, thus the age old fact that women do all the shopping etc and that this car is aimed at them for this reason... infact that small cars are aimed at the lower income market for people who want a nice but ecenomical car rather than a ford mondeo sized thing for practicallity (my mate will kill me for sl*gging of his car now lol!) doesnt come into it.

The hot hatch was designed for people who couldnt afford the big BMWs or mercs of the 70s/80s and look where its ended up ;)

Think what you will, its designed for the people!

Ive this discussion many a time - with people at work, down the pub etc......

I believe that a lot of men (+women) think that if a man has a small car then there they are lacking something. Well f**k their preconceptions because I dont need a feckin 4 door family saloon to cosset me around. I dont have a family! So why have a big car? After all it just takes up more room on the traffic congested roads.

The Clio suits me down to the ground. I want a small fast car to get to work and enjoy myself in. Maybe go on the odd track day or two. Some peops Ive met who drive bog standard Vectras/Mondeos say they would never be seen dead in a Clio. Why??? WTF is wrong with these people?

I think they must have an image problem. At the end of the day my car will wipe the floor with theirs so...........

Rich

Pissed rant over.

Im a guy, and I drive a Clio. Though I do not own a sports Clio but a regular one. And just like women, I personally dont care about the horse powers or mega cool ICE that much (though Ive fitted the speakers in myself). But when it came to choose my Clio I figured...

I tested the other small cars too, and I came to like Toyota Yaris very much. But people who Ive seen driving Yaris are mostly old, single men. And Yaris doesnt look too cool even when its done up a bit (Ive seen a black Yaris that, to my eyes, resembles Darth Vaders helmet). Plus, Clio came with Airbags and ABS brakes already included.

Renault Twingo is definetely the Renault for mothers, the standard "shopping car" in the family. Airbags and stuff, place for childrens stuff but not much else. And Renault Megane (Cabrio) then again is cool looking (with alloys), and more masculine than the Clio.

So the average Clio must be a semi-girls car. But I like it.

What makes a car a girls car,....errr because girls drive them??? Well I have seen girls driving Evos and Imprezas, so they are girls cars as well!!!?

I get stick from people at work about my 172 being a womens shopping car and this is from a bloke who drives a 1litre C reg fiesta ghia...nuff said....my girl friend has a 1.2 dynamique and i have a mk1 172, so its a lads and lasses car....i dont care what people think, i bought the clio as i know its a damn fine road weapon, and the less sporty models are damn fine, stylish cars...abut different from your fiesta etc. (oohh...now the fiesta thats a girls car!!!!! :) he he

Sylvia - havent you just agreed with what I said then? If KAs are driven by female schoolteachers (true btw, 4 of my female schoolteacher mates drive KAs) then its a girls car.

I for one dont *want* a big over-engineered car for the family man. Its only me in the car most of the time and occasionally the wife, so whats the point of having a bigger car unless youre carting double glazing samples around the whole time? I dont want some huge old mans barge.

I really love how this topic is now at 53 posts. I told my mates about this topic, they said "ohh thats a good idea, ask a bunch of mailto:g@y">g@y clio owners if the clio is a girly p00fs car."

I cant win can i? hehe

My girlfriend drives Nissan Almera sportdeck. Its a bigger car, and it has a bigger engine than my Clio. And it doesnt look that bad although she hasnt added anything to it. And its there for a WOMAN? So, actually Im the lady in the house with my tiny Clio...? :p

No, I dont feel Ive lost inches from my p***s. I bought the Clio as my city car, cos we can always take that other car on longer trips.

But still, at least the numbers are on my side. My 1.4 litre can accelerate from 0-100 km/h 0,9 seconds faster than her 1.8 litre, according to the marketing information. :)

nice one Ben j .. it seems its only you that wants to sl*g the CRX you may thin the CRX is ugly looking, but at least its different, the clio is just the same as any other supermini being produced these days, they all look similar, no originality.

as for slow, well cliojohn(malky) anytime you fancy a drag up the dual carrigeway just let me know....ill even give you a head start and you can tell the rest of these people how slow it is, and as for you again Ben j you cant seriously believe that your 16v would beat a CRX ..can you.. just think for a second..... ok , now go stand in the corner and shush

again on Ben js point "lets all sl*g CRXs for being poo!"

ok.. let me see.. my car is an F reg, thats 1989 if i remember right, which is near enough 14 years old, and whats gone wrong with it? absolutely nothing, runs fine, and works perfect...but when we look at the clio, i know a certain man who bought himself a brand new dynamique and within the first two days of having it was telling me that it had broken down, is this not true Cliojohn?

sure they may have fixed that and it may be forgiveable , but the service lights after 3k miles... the window rubbers popping after one month... i cant remember what else has gone wrong with it, but im sure thats not it all...

this aint really a dig at you malky by the way, just letting this guy know the score.

im done for now....

i await your replies

How comes this seems 2 have turned into a bit of a sl*gging match?

End of the day people r gona stereotype cars 4 whatever reason. Id just say let them get on with thinking that way and we can get on with showing them that they r wrong.

Nick, what I meant was that most female schoolteachers dont drive sporty little cars, they seem to drive unsporty ones like the Ka and the Nissan Micra, neither of which are, in my opinion, fast! A couple of my pals are teachers and both drive boringly slow Micras and neither like it in my car, as they seem to sense that going over forty is dangerous.

Some teachers, mostly female, (except you Nick, I dont want to upset you as you might ban me from Cliosport!) are cowards as they have spent their whole lives in classrooms, having not experienced the real world outside and they are easily frightened! Occasionally even talking down to the rest of us, as if we are all pupils, my sister-in-law does it all the time. Her husband is worse, as he is a headteacher!:devilish:

If the Clio was a girls car then how come the clutch is so heavy!!!

Loads of girls wont drive mine because they cant use the clutch.

  BMW 320d Sport

Yeah but it was only the 16v and Willy that had the heavy clutch, my old RT didnt seem to bad. ALthough perhaps thinking back it was the heaviest clutch Id ever driven up till that point.
