Does that mean that if I switched my cup headunit for a ff unit I'd see any improvement?
Your probably better off upgrading your speakers rather than the headunit .
The cup speakers feel really light and cheap compared to the normal ( FF ) speakers .
There's no point upgrading the speakers if there's pish all power running to them...
if you are going to upgrade either the speakers or the head unit, Upgrade to an aftermarket company rather than Renault.
Also no point installing a headunit from a normal ( FF ) with the crappy speakers in the cup .
Ideally upgrade the speakers and headunit with aftermarket gear .
They are pish, and you will see an improvement from upgrading from a 4x22 headunit to a 4x40 one leaving the existing speakers in place.
I did that about 100k miles ago...never looked back, so much better babbageil I ripped the whole thing out that is).

LOL at the swear filter putting 'babbage' in instead of ( until!
I got the 4x40 headunit from a member on here as so many upgrade.
Paid £20 for one, then sold my old 4x22 for £35 on eBay.
Winner.
haha I did wonder what you were on about, I thought it was the model 'babbage'!
Is it just me that can't access the for sale forum? Wait let me guess, because I'm not a paying member?
I was looking at replacing my cups standard HU with a Renault 40x4w tape player so I'd have better sound quality/quantity and be able to use my ipod with no fuss. Nice cheap (or free) upgrade.
I'm not fussed for changing to aftermarket HU/speakers, I've got some quality gear sitting in my garage but I can't be arsed fitting it all, door cards would need modding to fit components etc, and I like the OE look of the standard HU, plus the steering wheel controls are handy.
Does anyone know the power output of the speakers?
You are not sending twice the power in the real world, it works out to be about 5w rms more if that.
The stock speakers are so bad, That i would have thought sending more power to them would have distorted them easily, Regardless of the fact you cant kill a speaker with too much power.
If you can get it for free, Then why not, But i wouldnt pay £1 to do it.
