is the cup headunit different?

that's what i was considering, I don't know what power output the speakers are rated at but i'm sure there would be an improvement...?

Your probably better off upgrading your speakers rather than the headunit .

The cup speakers feel really light and cheap compared to the normal ( FF ) speakers .

There's no point upgrading the speakers if there's pish all power running to them...

Also no point installing a headunit from a normal ( FF ) with the crappy speakers in the cup .

Ideally upgrade the speakers and headunit with aftermarket gear .

I was looking at replacing my cups standard HU with a Renault 40x4w tape player so I'd have better sound quality/quantity and be able to use my ipod with no fuss. Nice cheap (or free) upgrade.

I'm not fussed for changing to aftermarket HU/speakers, I've got some quality gear sitting in my garage but I can't be arsed fitting it all, door cards would need modding to fit components etc, and I like the OE look of the standard HU, plus the steering wheel controls are handy.

Does anyone know the power output of the speakers?

Why don't you see if you can yourself a headunit out of a 182 , the cabasse ( update ) one . Then you could get yourself a lead off floridadaz for your ipod for a tenner

I got the 4x40 headunit from a member on here as so many upgrade.

Paid £20 for one, then sold my old 4x22 for £35 on eBay.

Winner.

Some 182 speakers in the for sale section . Pair them up with a non cup headunit like the cabasse in the 182 and you'll have a better sound .

Whatever you decide to do, do not buy the "update list" cabasse head unit fom an 05 182 as this will not be compatible with your Cup's controls.

The pre 05 ones from the 182 will be fine also I believe, it's just Renault decided to change the wiring in 2005 for some unknown reason! :S

IMO you would not see ANY different upgrading the Head unit. The jump between 20x4 and 40x4 is only about 5w RMS.

Fair enough on the ipod front though.

The stock speakers are so bad, That i would have thought sending more power to them would have distorted them easily, Regardless of the fact you cant kill a speaker with too much power.

If you can get it for free, Then why not, But i wouldnt pay £1 to do it.

why is it not twice the power? I know max power is bolloks, where rms is a true figure, but it's rated at twice the power!

I didn't think the stock speakers were too bad, blaukpoint are a good make anyway
