Janspeed Exhausts

  BMW 320d SE
I'm contemplating a Janspeed Full System for the 182.
Are these any good? Does anyone have one of these on their 182s?

A friend of mine 4 days ago, received from K-tec the Janspeed system for his 182...

The installation was easy and he's done 100 km by now.The car pulls better(not much difference though) and the sound is better than the industrial one but not at all annoying....

I'm gonna drive it tonight and I'll post my impresions...

  BMW 320d SE
Thanks. That will be extremely handy. I just don't want it to be too loud, or boomy on long motorway journeys.

Ive got the back box of these and am very happy with the looks. Unfortunatly, its buggered so im getting another one next week, FOC of course.

Before it broke though and became boomy, its was fine for volume, just what i wanted. Just a little grumble when pottering about and lovely imo when pushed. Not boomy at all on M-way.

Does the full system include the Janspeed Cat? Would like to know your opinions too mate as im probably going to get one.

Thanks

I wasn't planning on getting the sports cat just yet, just the cat-back system.
John, what price are you doing the 182 full system for?

Well I did drive the car last night so here are some impressions:

It is not boomy at all.I mean that the sound is better than the industrial one,but if I didn't know that the car had Janspeed and I wasnt a 182 owner I would think that it is an industrial one...

I'm gonna get it as soon as I can :D

the car also feels good(I got the feel that pulled better than before) but we're gonna pay a visit to dyno in Monday so I'll inform you.

Yeah,I'll post as soon as we get the dyno results...

The car was producing 184,4 bhp at the cranck(remmaped ecu+K&N panel) and 21,4 kg torgue.

Here is a pic of how it looks(IMO really nice)

That looks pretty good. The picture is really handy actually, as Janspeed don't have any pictures of that system on their website.

Since u have this system in your trophy more months, whats your opinions?

I said in my previous post that I got the impresion that the car did pull better, but I'd like to hear your opinion about that....

About the sound though,I'm sure after my tests :D that it doesn't produce much(I would say that gives the Rs the sound that it shoulh had from the factory.....)

Edit: Justin182 I'd like an opinion from you also... :D

Not had any problems with my Janspeed exhaust. I too felt that the car performed better with it fitted, but too be honest the car had not done many miles then and has loosened up a lot over the last 9K miles.

I've owned cars with loud exhausts before and went for the Janspeed 2.25" bore exhaust system as I wanted to be able to drive the car on the motorway each day without any unwanted cabin drone / boom. I'd say that 90% of the time the noise levels are perfect, but there are the odd occasions I wish it was a bit louder.

I've taken advantage of the Blueflame group buy and have a de-cat pipe on order to try out as I'm of the impression that there is not a lot of difference between the std cat and the Janspeed product on the 182.

Delivery from Blueflame is going to be at least two weeks - when I get it fitted I'll post back with my views.

  BMW 320d SE
^ That will be interesting, to see the difference between standard cat, sports cat, and de-cat.
Oh yeah, thanks to Justin for that piccy. It looks really good from the back - nice slash cut pipes that follow the contours of the bumper downwards.
I think I'm going to have to get me one now! :D

Oh one more thing - I've just been on the K-Tec website, and I see they have a K-Tec/Janspeed system, which is 2.25" bore, and their own K-Tec system, which is 2.5" bore. How much louder is the 2.5" system? Is that system too loud for motorway cruising?
I just want to get all the facts and experience from others with these systems before I make any purchases!

I was going to comment mate, but thought that as it buggered up quiet recently i thought it might be unfair judgement.

Im not quite sure what problem is as it hisses on load and gets boomy when very hot which it shouldnt, but am getting another one as they come with a lifetime warrenty.

Anyway, when not messing me about, it is definatly the sound that i was after as i feel the std zorst doesnt do the 182 any favours. Gives a nice deep tone when plodding about town but nothing loud. And then really starts to roar when getting high up through the rev range. Doesnt produce any booming on the motorway and only becomes apparent it is afternarket when you put your foot down. Nice burbling on idle too.

Hopefully get a new one in the next 2 weeks plus a sport cat, so will be looking forward to getting my car finally rolling roading.

Hope this helps buddy

Changing opinions sure helps :D

I have a K&N panel and a remmap.The car has ~9000 kms thats 5600 miles for you.When I did my dynorun(in 4500km-2700 miles it showed 185 and 21,5 kg of torgue.)

I have already ordered the inlet manifold mod from BenR and I'm waiting to come and I thought that a Janspeed full system would finish the 1st stage of tuning for my 182.(well maybe +a de-cat pipe)

Think that I'll reach 195 hp so I'll post the dyno results when I get the job done...

But till that time comes,I'll post the results from the Janspeed dyno run in my friends car Monday evening..

Oh and something I forgot to ask for.....Who is offering the best price for the Janspeed system ? I'm getting it from K-tec for 312,55 £ can I get a better price from somewhere else ?

k-Tec's 2.5" bore system is manufactured by Blueflame.

So is the Blueflame/K-Tec exhuast boomy on the motorway then, or am I going to be better off with the Janspeed?

Any results yet mate from the RR?

  182 cup pack
Well yes and no :D

We went to the dyno yesterday, the car was a whole 10 bhp down from its previous visit.

Than we saw that the inlet manifold had a serious problem(the gasket was teared!!! and air was getting in from there)
So booked a service at Renault and we'll revisit the dyno in the next Tuesday...

When we get the job done I'll post the results and the diagramms....

  BMW M3
No probs mate.. hope it gets sorted soon.

Just wondering if the car sounded any different, as i'm struggling to identify a hisisng sound i get on load?

  182 cup pack
The car was sounding as it was before(I didn't notice anything strange with its sound)

  182 cup pack
Guys I haven't forgot what I said.....
The car would be ready tommorow evening and we have booked the RR for next Monday......

So when I have news I'll post them...

Cheers.

  182 cup pack
Today we've booked the dyno in order to finaly see the results of the Janspeed system...

We'll be there at 5 o clock local time so I'll then post the results...

  182 cup pack
We payd a visit at the dyno, but the results were really bad....
It seems that the car had a massive loss of 9 bhp and 0,6-0,8 kg torgue!!!!

The temperature was 33° C and 25 inside the dyno....

I am pretty sure that some bhp are being lost by the high temperatures but again I thought that the exhaust would work better...

Before it was ~184 and now is 175 !!!

Bad results indeed.

That's the problem with rolling roads.

I take it the two runs were not done on the same day?

Yeah you really need a "before" and "after" done on the same equipment, on the same day, for a fair test.

  182 cup pack
Υes I know that but we didnt have a dyno run in the same day...

But again how different the figures would be ? He will put again the oem exhaust back and measure it...

  BMW M3
Thats a bit annoying, but i presume there are a few variables to consider like the RR accuracy, tempreture and fuel etc..

But to be honest, surely the Janspeed cat back system is better then the renault standard one with its massive silencers, plus it weights less.

The 9 bhp loss will be from external factors and not the exhaust i think.
