JC5 2nd gear syncro

I use my 172 for Targa Rallies but am having trouble with the 2nd gear syncro spring in JC5 128/9 gearbox, it keeps breaking.
Is there any way of strengening it or stopping it breaking?

Only way to stop that happening is to replace 1st and 2nd gear with the updated kit @ around £250. Replaces the gears, synchros and selector hub. Also does away with that spring.
