JC5 oil top up

  Clio 172 Cup
Hi

Can you fill up the gear box through the plastic tube at the top of the box ?
Or is it some kind of pressure vent ?

I want to check how much oil ive been losing over time.

At the front of the gearbox, where the power steering pipe is there is a big black plastic wingnut.

You wouldn't know when to stop if you dripped it in the top though!

You have to keep it level and then when it starts coming out the hole that you use to fill it then its correct. Just see how much is left in the bottle afterwards.

yes i still removed the filler plug, or it would be over filled and i still wouldn't know how much its used, as it happens as soon as i removed the filler plug onj the front a couple of teaspoons worth came out so i know its not lost any now.

Sorry I don't follow, so when you remove the filler plug a little comes out straight away? That to me says you've not lost any/a tiny tiny amount. I take it you've got a leak around the selector?

3.1 litres iirc. Put three litres in. Whatever's left in the box will top it up.

i found a oil leak on the garage floor and am trying to find it first i thought it was the gear box but as it doesnt appear to have lost any, maybe its coming from the sump ? ............
