just a curious thought.

Just wondering how many people have bought there motors and modifications outright rather than on tick...When i see all the money that goes on mods on clio media and when attending shows i think, does evryone live at home or is it all finance. Would be intersting to get some feedback.

I live at home (my own home, not my parents home - which is what I think you were implying? :)) and I pay for everything from my own pocket (not one of your options!) because I have a job. Credit is a mugs game.

bought my 200 outright, well i paid 10k on the spot on my bank car and the rest on finance just because im earning interest whilst the money is sat in the bank and i got a 0% finance deal so well worth it! could of paid it off all on one go but i like the idea of 0% interest and the bank giving me money for keeping the money in my bank

I got a loan for my car but only got a few payments left now. Everything else is bought outright because I only buy what I can afford.

So getting a mortgage is a mugs game because techinicaly this is also tick/drip/debt etc

I think not.

^ I think you're missing the point.

You're assuming I have a mortgage?

Regardless, a mortgage is a loan on property that - all things being well - will accumulate in value.

The OP was referring to buying Clio modifications on finance. Not really comparable.

I live at home with the parents. Buy everything with good earned cash! Nothing on finance/loans. I don't justify paying interest for stuff for the car. Agree with Nero, mortgage for a property is in a bit of a different league to a splitter to make your car look good!

Sorry but thats asking to just enter into an argument with 75% of the users on here is it not?

Its one of those opinions thats best left to general chat or yourself, probably the latter...!

Anyone that gets mods on finance is an idiot tbh, only get loans for assets imo.

Personally always bought cars/insurance/mods outright, only ever had loans for motorbikes and always pay them off early since they annoy me :rasp:

I got loan for my Civic Type R but now gonna sell up and buy Phase 2 172 and CBR600RR.

I do regret getting my loan as now want to buy a house and its holding me back a bit but hopefully in years time once fully qualified in welding and better pay i should hopefully have a house

Bank loan for my car even though I could have bought it out right I didnt want to lose my savings, and whatever I buy I will buy when I have the money avalible.

_Nero_, I wouldn't say credit is a mugs game you just need to manage it well, its there so why not use it from time to time imo

You wont regret it, they are excellent for a 2 hour blast. Unfortunatley they aren't practical for anything more tbh.

Might be selling mine this year, 05 reg, less than 4000 miles on it, just broken in and except a small scuff on the mirror it is mint. Will be up for £4300 at the start of the season

Cups is on finance, but I got a great deal and so probably would have gone with the finance even if I had the cash.

Mods will always be paid for oturight though.

That is my opinion within the context of this thread and to the question posed by the OP (essentially funding modifications to a car using finance).

In hindsight, it may have been a sweeping statement, specifically with regard to 0% deals which, if managed correctly, can be beneficial for the borrower (though one might question the benefits of such deals in light of such low APRs on savings accounts!).

I got a loan for my 182 sold it and made money on it then bought my ph1 and all its modifications and paid off my loan with the money from the 182.
Miss my 182 though :(

Pfff, 182's are for girls, PH1 FTW.

I saved up for 13 months for my car with a part time job while at college. Any money spent on it is spare cash I have laying around. I try to be sensible and not put money into it though, as it's not worth it in a little 1.2, even if the outside is in impossibly good condition.

How would you know 1.2 kid ? ;)

My 182 was a far nicer car than my ph1 haha, and my ph1 is quite modified.

I've bought everything outright for my cars including my cars. I got last years insuance on the drip because it was 0% so you would be stupid not to. Rather have £1460 sat in my bank tbh.

The only things I would willingly finance is a car and house. Which 70% of people have finance on.

Financing modifications, holidays etc... General non essentials linked to our credit card culture, in my opinion, is a mugs game.

i held a sex shop at gun point for the cash to get mine then rented my ass out for the mods. worth every penny.

1st car was on finance, 2nd was bought using a loan. Both monthly payments were/are very little though. All mods are saved for and bought outright.

Insurance is also saved and payed for outright, even my ridiculous 172 premium that has now dropped by £500 3 months after I bought it :(
