Friend of mine sent this over. They went out for a shoot the other nite, this was taken 11:45pm and the light is from the moon! Exposure was 30 minutes!

waiting for 30 minutes to find out that you had got the exposure wrong would be a bit of a shitter. Cool effect though.

i assume it was pretty much dark when he took that then?

Absolutely stunning shot. I got bored when i was playing about with exposure times. I maxed out at like 6mins lol

Amazing shot, absolutely no light pollution either, very impressive.

Have done this over about 45 minutes before, effect is amazing. Unfortunately finding somewhere several miles from street lighting is pretty tough, even when you think you are miles away from the smallest built up area, you tend to get a completely orange sky.

Sounds right, would need a trigger cable capable of being locked open.

Shame the D40 doesn't do it, I'll be dammed if I'm going to stand there for 30 minutes holding the button down! :S

Good shot though, Would've been better if there had been more stars though ;)

Do the D40 not have 'bulb' mode? I've done a few of these with my 350D and the RC-1 remote (£12) although not much longer than a couple of minutes. (Think the 350D max is 16 minutes iirc)

Very difficult to get right im my experience. Mine were very orangey and noisy. :(

That shot was taken on a 350D if you look at the exif data.

Shoot in RAW and correct the White Balance after to fix the yellow. The 350D can also shoot much longer than 16 minutes, just needs to be enough battery.
