Just bought a 197 but....

  Megane 250 FF / cup
Hi all I've just picked up a 197 to go alongside my 250 to be eventually turned into a track weapon.

However I find it doesn't idle the best and every now and then it seems to idle quite lumpy. It's always been serviced which I know doesn't mean it's going to be trouble free but I didn't think it would idle lumpy. It's quick and performs how it should but I just don't like the idle.

The only mod the owner has done is a toyosport manifold?!?!

I find that as I let the clutch out in first the revs drop and I have to rev it a bit higher if I want to set off smoothly / it not feel like it's going to stall.

Any ideas,

Elliott.

PS, the engine light is the last light to go out when I start the engine it stays on a couple of seconds after the rest but then goes out.

And tonight the engine light was flashing for about 30 seconds whilst driving and then went out:

Would it have anything to do with mapping? I know the toyosports manifolds dont have a cat built into them like standard manifolds do, so they'll need a remap after fitting. Maybe the previous owner had one fitted and didnt bother with a re-map?! No too sure it'll affect the idle though.

Could be a multitude of sensors, cam and/or crank position, spark plugs, coil packs, lambada or injectors as mentioned, Clip is your best bet to diagnose

Sounds like every 197 I've ever seen or been in inc the one I owned for 2 years. They are all a lumpy and need to be heavily revved to get them moving.

Cheers for the help lads. I'm not a fan of the noise from the manifold. Anyone got a link to the standard part and I'll fit it back on.

The Toyo mani normally knocks mate, it's a proper tight fit. Most 197's (as above) are a bit of a pig to get moving initially, especially first thing in the morning. Are there any misfires or anything along those lines?

Thanks for your reply no it doesn't seem to miss fire just a big flat spot. I also don't like how you let the clutch go and you need to rev it higher to move off slowly!

Flat spots are on 100% of all 197's unless they are mapped out. Common flaw that everyone suffers from so don't think it's only you.

They need a bit of grunt to get moving as they're quite heavy tbh but if it seems a stupid amount, sure you're clutch isn't on the way out? Got someone nearish you with a 197 who can compare? Or put where you're from and someone may volunteer.

I'm in Ashton Under Lyne - Manchester. It has done 88k so possible I suppose.
