I know the feeling Fella, Mine always feels Sluggish... Probably just me driving skills though

No I give it hammer just doesnt seem to shift as well as people say theirs do,

I had a fabia vrs before and I'm sure it was way quicker than the clio!

I had a Fiesta RS Turbo before I got mine and was scared it would just bore the pants off me... I was wrong- still in love with it now nearly a year on.

Have you had it serviced etc at regular intervals?

PS- wrong section :p

they are not 'fast' cars. they have a fair bit of pace but i would never consider my 182 a fast car. you get used to the speed and the feel of them so they dont seem as fast, like pretty much any car.
there are much quicker cars on the raod, but a 172 cup in the hands of the right driver is a weapon! would take on or at least stay with most cars in its catagory

sorry,

Yeah new oil every 6000, itg panel filter and janspeed exhaust,

Only other thing I can think of is I work at bentley and get to drive the cars and they shift!

But my mate has got trophy he also drives bentleys on test and said his isnt all that different really, well not a huge difference like mine

You're just used to it. My RX7 stopped feeling fast after a while and I wanted more out of it. The fact that it destroyed everything I came across on the road bar a couple tweaked scoobie's and evo's and could overtake long strings of traffic at will seemed to slip by me.

Human nature that we always want more!

True,

Maybe im just used to it, maybe it was the massive torque of the skoda that made it seem quicker.

Where is a good place to get it rolling roaded in the midlands anyone know?

my girlfriend drove my car and i was in the passanger seat. my car felt twice as quick when i wasn't behind the wheel! try that or driving something slower for half an hour.
or do like i do, get the most mpg out of your car most of the time (average 37mpg for me) then stick your foot down from time to time. you appreciate it more

if you get a rr session, dont be dissapointed if its below 180bhp. it will be

skoda was a works car,

Can get a brand new r32 for 140 a month and gets replaced for a new one every 6 months but im 21 and the insurance quote was near 5000 grand!

What kind of power should i expect?

I have a 172 and Fabia vRS.. the vRS has a nice kick to it when the turbo kicks in and loads of poke when in the right gear, but get your foot down in the Clio you will soon realise its much quicker ;)

just doesnt seem to pul like the skoda

I work on the bentley brooklands and they start at £250,000

Company car is a no no, and they do 6mpg Average!

Got to get the 1000nm of torque from somewhere though.
The power of them is amazing!

  Clio 172 & Fabia vRS
Thats just because of the torque the PD TDi engine has,

182 has 148 lb-ft
vRS has 229 lb-ft

Put em both together though and i know which one ill be backing.. just look at the difference in the figures, i.e 0-60 and top speed!

Also, don't newer cars like 182s, probably 172s as well have 'learning' ECUs? You drive like a granny all the time and it sort of 'adapts' to your driving and sort of goes more 'economy' ? This might not be true, but I'm sure it is - although whether it makes any difference to actual power is surely unlikely?

My mate always used to say, when he drove his GF's C2 GT like, to town and back, he'd be twatting it on the way there (she drives like a granny) and saying it felt sluggish and slow. Then after the thrashing, he'd drive it home the same way and always said it felt much quicker!

Although, to Crabbo182, as you say you give it some often anyway, it doesn't seem like this would be an issue heh!

To be fair I thrash the sh@te out of it!

My mates just had a 172 and he swears its quicker than his old 200 bhp rs he used to have, going to arrange a little traffic light flutter see what happens

  clio182,capri,defender90
vrs was good in the bends i felt, clio not much better but the guy who I bought the car off put lowering springs on it don't think they helped much!

And the vrs stopped like nothing you could imagine!

You are probably just used to it. I drive my dads cr sometimes then get back in mine just to appreciate it more.

there's possibly something wrong with it impossible to say really.

Mikey's old 172 ran on 15valves!

Could be anything.

What's your role at Bentley? I interviewed for MMI Development Engineer and my mate has recently left Bentley for Getrag in Liverpool.

+1

when someone else drives your car, you will soon realise its not as sluggish as you think

After 105,000 miles I still get excited about driving my Cup. Probably something to do with the fact that my daily hack now is a 51 plate 1.6 Zetec Focus...84 v 205 bhp/ton...the Cup's a rocket.

Drive it like a grandad for a week or so then it feels faster. They don't feel that quick in a straight line but round twisty roads its great fun.
