Just done the rstuner thing and....

Most supermarket fuel is rubbish, end.

Tesco 99 and Vpower are what i'd use in any of my cars. Also you tend to find a better MPG after using a couple of tanks!

100ron Vpower, sold in Switzerland is what you want... and its only £1.34 P/L!

My megane was running alot smoother and getting an extra 3pmg with a tank full of that!

ok, i'm about a 1/3 way through a tank of v power and its solved the problem at low revs :D

but now i have another problem, when i start it after a few hours (ie in the morning or after work) it takes longer to fire up than it use to. almost like a flooded engine. also the revs sometimes go up and down a bit (it's already had approx 20 cycles). is this a new learning phase on the new fuel?

I just got back from the Stelvio and other alpine roads. filled up with RON100 for the first time and thought it made quite a difference.

For the time, trouble and costs would it have not been better just to book it in for a remap by someone? Mapped to your engine and particular mods done in 1 go, just thinking the cost of the RS Tuner, generic map then doing it all yourself with the potential for these problems to arise and having to sort them out while using the car everyday

at the moment i'm preferring how it was on the 95 ron fuel!!
0-2k rpm it's better on 98 ron, but after that it was better on 95 ron, seemed to feel less boggy and more free revving.
i'll reserve judgement until i've done about a months worth of v power (1000 miles), and i'm fitting inlets, decat and ph1 airbox in the next couple of weeks which should hopfully get more air in to lean out the 98 ron.

My car has this map also.

It runs best on Sainsburys 95 Ron! Iv tried 3 or 4 tanks of everything, from Asda's to BP ultimate and Theres a noticable difference in the Sainsburys 95 ron only. Not even their super unleaded comes close for some reason.

Its strange aswell as this isnt the only car of mine this was the case. My old Mr2 turbo ran on this, even though it says they are MEANT to run on 97/98/99 or whatever, sainsburys 95 produced the least knock according to my Power FC

LMAO !

You have no idea what RON is, or how a modern EFi engine works, do you ?

May I recommend giving up while you are .. er .. ahead !?

This is exactly why i don't get involved in things that i don't really understand. Best to leave it to A - The people that know or B - Leave it the FOOK alone. This is all

Hence my comment about all the troubles going on, take it to someone that knows and done in 1 go... Simples

i see where you're coming from, but given the cost of paying a specialist to do it, it's a case of either DIY or not have it done at all.

I cant belive your running a performance car on gash fuel! My car is standard and doesnt run worth a shiit on 95, stutters and coughs. (put a £5er in to get me to a shell garage) Put momentum or vpower in and its cured instantly!

i got tired of v power so i've filled it up with sainsburys 95 ron and it runs much better, it doesn't feel as bogged down as it did with the 98 ron.

i've still got that starting issue that came into play after filling up with 98 ron. when you start, it turns over about 5 or 6 times than nearly dies before firing into life.

you're right, i don't know much about ignition timing, stoich, differences between ron and mon, etc, but can i assume that as you haven't offered anything constructive that you don't know either? :rasp:

Impressive.

Anyway, back on topic, your issue seems very strange and not one that comes up on here too often (if at all !?). What was the car like before you RS-T'd it ? What fuel did you run before...? 95 without issue I'm guessing..?

Could be worth dropping a message to Henk @ Fastchip and making sure you've got the right map / cal file etc (I don't know anything about RS Tuners) and go from there.

Good luck,

with regards to firing up it was fine before the rs-t. it was fine after for the half a tank that i used 95 ron, then when i filled up with 98 ron the problem started.

i do have a fault code for the second lambda sensor but people tell me it doesn't do anything. i'll mail henk

Sainsburys uses BP fuel anyways, BP tanker goes straight from one to the other around here! If there was a shell in the area I would undoubtably use that but it's around 20 miles to the nearest lol

henk wasn't interested, just told me to stick it in renault for a service.

He's probably right, the issues you mention have probably arisen purely by coincidence, I don't think they are related to the rstuner as there is a lot of people running the same map without problems.

It's also virtually impossible to write the wrong cal file as the software will give you a big warning if it isn't the correct one.

Also, there are many that run the 98 map on 95 fuel without issues, you pissing about with different fuels is just a waste of time and money. Either run the 95 or the 99, simple as that.

This whole thing is probably nothing to do with the rstuner, nor which fuel ur using. It's an underlying problem elsewhere

hi, ok i found a pattern. i've been trying different fuels and this is what i found:

with 95 ron i get stuttering under 2k revs with anything over approx 15% throttle
with bp 97 ron i only get very slight stuttering under 1.5revs with anything over approx 15% throttle
with vpower 98 ron i get no stuttering but it doesn't start first time

with other fuels, it starts first time!! :S

can anyone suggest something to look at? plugs are a couple of months old and are the proper ngk ones.

i've been reading up some more on super unleaded and it was mentioned on a random forum for bikes:
Super unleaded isn't appropriate for your bike, I think. Super doesn't mean better in this case - it means higher octane. I don't think I'm surprised your bike struggles to start with it - the ignition system on your bike might be struggling with igniting the higher octane fuel, especially since its not being compressed to anywhere near as much as it would be in engines that actually need high octane fuel.

so..... if my car is having a similar wobbly in that it's struggling to ignite the fuel, what would be the likely suspect? the plugs are correct ngk and literally months old. i guess coil pack, leads should be checked. anything else? anyway to test this suspected lack of ignition?
