E92 M3,172 track car
A lad I went to school with thought he'd go to town modifying his Nova one day. I had an SR at the time which wasn't that bad for an 18 year old lad. The friend in question picked up this example a couple of months after mine but thought his 1.2 L was an Evo 9 chassis'd super wagon. He decided to take a hair pin bend off of a roundabout in the wet at 65mph with 4 people in. The journey was abruptly ended after masses of understeer and a coming together with a 10 ton builders merchants lorry who saved our lives. In the drivers words 'If I had stopped before here you would have gone off the edge and down that 25 foot ditch, and died. If I had not stopped you would have gone under my back wheels, and died'.
I was the unlucky sod in the passengers seat and honestly thought I was going to die. It's astrange feeling which doesn't invlove any fear oddly enough. The force was so great that my right leg smashed through the whole passengers side of the dash including the glove box.
The lad sat behind the driver had his chest sliced open by the seat belt which cut through his padded jacket, a jumper and his shirt.
Unfortunately the coont drving sustained no injuries from the accident. He did however go home with a broken toe after running up to the car and kicking the back bumper as if to say the car had done something wrong. Bell end.
I haven't spoken to the guy since.
Please excuse the photos of photos. It really was an eye opener when I saw these again today and makes me feel I was very lucky.
Let this be a lesson to all of us. We all enjoy a 'sprightly' drive but lets keep within the realms of our ability and the conditions of the road.
