just had the cambelt changed

  clio 182
just had the 182 in for its cambelt aux belt and dephaser doing as the dephaser was fubared
collected it tonight and the mechanic told me I have been quite lucky as the timing was slightly out and also one of the idler pulleys the bolt what holds it on was very loose.

so am quite glad i decide to have it all changed or it would have been very costly

Its usually the idlers that fail and cause the belt to come off and snap, so yeah you were.

Some proper nobbers just change the belt so its possible it was done, but whoever did it was apikey and just changed the belt and not the full kit.

Really the whole kit should be done and if there's any play in the dephaser pulley it will affect the timing. My cambelt has just been done at Birchdown and it's transformed the engine. They fitted a new dephaser on it as it was really noisy and very badly worn. It feels much better to drive now. The throttle body was cleaned as well. It's given the car a new lease of life.

Sounds exactly the same as mine recently, AndyRG sorted it for me, he said it was only a bit out however the car felt much better after
