Just ordered 1 of these

  CLIO Iceberg 172
grab ya self a heat shield too cos ya gonna need it, you will kill any gains of an open filter with the amount of heat your gonna be sucking in from that top rad pipe and your engine

  Insignia SRi
I had one of these, very easy to fit but you will get much better gains with the standard air box and panel filter, this just looks and sounds good but no performance gains whatsoever!!!

  Black 197
Simple to fit, simple to clean..

Got one on my 182 - - sounds the absolute nuts past 4k

I have nothing shielding it and there is no difference performance wise going from standard filter to this.

^ Wait till summer! Open IK's are pasch!

tbh i've had it on 3 yrs and i wasnt worried about heat, didnt do it for performance i did it for sound really, i've grown up now though lol and come tomorrow when i pick my 197 up i'll be sticking to the standard induction but replace the filter with an itg panel filter

really do need some protection its gets bloody hot under there, read my post on airbox development, iv been doing some testing over the weekend, a standard airbox with no CAF takes in about 70 degrees while driving! due to the rad being directly in front of the filter area, with an open IK you will be looking at 80+ on idel and droping down to about 70ish on the drive, ber in mind the engine temp is 86+
a good protected ik with a good CAF will give most gains, as you can get the intake temp down to the high 30's

i agree with you totally but for me i wasnt after performance it was just added sound, so i couldnt be bothered to go round the whole caf / protection around the filter

Yeah an uprated panel filter and larger CAF into the standard box does make the car pull a bit harder but if all your after is noise then these are good kits!!!

i did a similar thing when i had my metro gti, sounded the nuts going along but barely stayed alive when idling

I run 80mm CAF tube that I have attached to the original ends of the CAF tubing with a K&N panel filter and no accoustic valve and it def pulls better than the powertec but doesnt sound as good. So I have a £100 IK sitting in the shed doing nothing!!! :( lol

iv cut a 80mm hole into the airbox and put a 80mm CAF running straight in i get the sound and performance atm, so far its proving well under testing, managed to get the inlet temp down 20 deg's

but back on track, have you just got the cone or have you got the induction hose with that,

  Insignia SRi
All you get with those kits is the cone and the mounting bracket as it fits directly onto the original or samco induction bend!!
