Well done on passing your test, now you can start to learn to drive. ;)

First port of call is a good insurance company before you get your heart set on a car.

My advice would be, get something cheap and slow and under 1Ltr. for six months while you learn how to drive on the Motorways and at night. Then take the Pass Plus test and look for something nicer/quicker.

If you go straight in at the deep end the insurers will cane you, as you are most at risk when you have just passed your test. A performance car just increases that risk.

Good luck

Hey, I learned in a 1.8 Deisel Clio and that made me go for a clio as my first car, I did get a 1.2 and I tell you Iv had some "sticky" moments. I think if I had anything bigger it would be wrote off by now and wrapped round a lampost. My advice is to go for a lower engined car first as Brian said its NOW u really learn to drive! I do get a little frustrated on a motorway with a 1.2 but it does its job and at 40mpg its pretty good.

PS the insurance companies will bend u over and not use lube!

i agree with the above, no matter wjhat you think you still dont no how to drive, you know how to move a car but only experience brings true driving skills, listen to us we are all old farts lol.
I wrote my 1st car after 3 months, so glad it was a shitter.

so get a £300 run about for 6 months - a year then look at something more expenisive

  Vauxhall Combo!
I got myself a vtr at 17, bought it on the back of a 1300quid insurance quote eventually I paid 2300 for 1yr tpft with p/plus. It was spot on for a first car not too fast, I did learn how to drive in it! However you know yourself best if going fast is your thing try and restrict yourself cc wise it all depends how confident you are!

no matter what you think you still dont no how to drive

so true!
driving lessons dont teach u how to drive in the real world
they only teach u how to pass ur test

start off with something slow and then after a few years get something quicker

imo driving is the biggest test of someones maturity. too many conifident kids go out there being cocky s***s and kill themselves/other people.

i had a 1.8 diesel 205 slowest car ever, still managed to wrap it round a lampost spectacually , nearly killing me and 2 mates... young and foolish

Well done on passing your test, not that long ago I was in your position. Had just passed, thought i knew it all and I wanted a 'fast car'. I got insured on my mums 1.2 punto but i hated it as it was sooo slow, 1 month later I wrote it off!skided, hit a wall, went on my side, slid along then somehow ended up on my wheels. After that my whole attitude to driving has changed, Ive got my 1.2 clio:D and its fine for me just now, this lot are all rite, we are still learning to drive and will be for a while. For me it took the windows smashing in my face as i slid down a road with the car on its side to realise I had to be more sensible.
I know you dont wanna drive a shi**tr but i'd recomend something slower for now.
We are both pretty much in the same boat allthough insurance companies f**king hate me! so you should be cheaper, Im with Endsleigh if that helps you out

Well done, sorry bout us all being serious about this but u dont wanna learn my hard way, have fun mate:cool:

congrats mate! :)

take it easy on the roads at this time of the year when you get on the road, they're a bit damp an greasy so get to grips with it all in real life for a while. my advice, I haven't had a nasty accident like taylor but nearly did on the way to bluewater when I passed my test and it scared me shitless and put my life into perspective. cars need respect. treat everyone like an idiot on the road.

  2 wheel power
Drive a $hitter mate, they are more fun. I picked my 106 up for 130 quid while I'm saving for something nicer, will have a years no claims hopefully come april so can afford something nicer then.

Listen to what Brian said, thats some good advice. Drive a 1.1 fiesta for 12 months, all your mates will laugh at you, but the amount you'll save on insurance/fuel can go towards a better car when you need to. Get a cheap car, then if you crash/destroy it, it won't matter as much.

Hey, I learned in a 1.8 Deisel Clio

Yes, they go like a 1.8, but there only 1.5 ;)

  2 wheel power
Also if you have a cheap car you honestly will not care what happens to it. Also unless you buy something truly terrible know one will laugh at you. Of all my mates only 2 have new cars, one was bought for him and he gets mocked for it and the other one bought his.

Nice one on passin your test. I passed my test jst over a month ago so i kno what position your in. But this is where the learning starts. I've no had any accidents or that (touch wood) bt i recommend you go for maybe a 1.2 or something to keep the insurance down. Might only be a 1.2 bt its still faster than walking etc.

Enjoy yourself but be careful

Jamie :)

My 1.2 16V is perfect at moment for me. I passed my test just over 3 months ago and i know i wouldnt be able to control anything with more power especially on the country roads around where i live.

i find my car fine for motorways as i can accelerate up to 70 quite quickly in 3rd gear (parents kill me for doing 70 in 3rd on sliproad lol)

the only problem with the 1.2 is there is no chance in trying to overtake someone on a single carriageway.

  Clio Dynamique 1.216vSLOW
good one kiddo, stick to a 1.2 16v i got my 1.2 16v dynamique for my first motor a year ago now still got it and ive found it fine on the motorways for a 1.2 easily copes in the third lane but i agree with most people on here, why bother trying to get a powerful motor to start with because the insurance will kill u and u'll probs end up wrapping it around a tree if its to powerful, its not like gran turismo out on the roads u really have gotta take ur time tbh
neways all the best lad

  Clio SI
heya congrats on your test i passed in a clio and then bought a 1.2 clio then 6 months later bought a 1.4 16v becuase of the insurance. its also really advisable to do pass plus that the only way i could get insured for my new car and its only 1400 fully comp which aint bad at 18.

Congrats on Passing
