....... in the missus 51 1.2 dynamique and the cap had a bit of white froth round it when i removed it.does this always mean a problem with the head gasket or can it build up over time?

30,000 miles renault maintained and seems to be running ok,any suggestions/advice?

how much is bit? can sometimes get build up if you have been doing lots of short journeys and its not getting hot enough to burn it off. is there any blodges on the dip stick? clean out the cap with a cloth and see if it happens again.

usually is associated with head gasket failure

oil is as nice as it can be,car used for short journeys as you say so hopefully no problems there.

check your coolant level, if youre losing coolant then this suggests head gasket. I very much doubt it is head gasket, condensation tends to build up in the oil, like soche said, more likely if only doing short journeys.

clean the cap and take it out for a proper drive

the oil doesnt get anywhere near up to temp after ten minutes of drivin, take it out for 20 minutes minimum and if you have a motorway close by go on that and come off at the next exit and go back

if its only used for short journeys id bet thats why its doin it

thats quite normal on the 1.2 16V, its due to the plastic rocker cover and inlet
