K-Tec Decat?

  E90 320d M Sport
Hi there,

Was just wondering how easy it is to fit a k-tec silenced decat.......and then put the standard cat on for the MOT.

If I go for the silenced one how noisy is it compared to the normal 2.5" silenced stealth?

Does the MPG drop with a decat on?

Cheers.

I had the silenced one, no difference at low revs but 2.5k upwards its loud as with it fitted, doubt the straight through is much different to be honest, the stragiht through "silencer" is just a gimmick, and no my mpg didnt drop, but my exhaust liked to pop ALOT :)

Oh yeah, a pain in the arse to fit! bout an hours labour for a half decent garage.

Ive posted up a few times a before and after de-cat video, search for my thread when I was selling my exhaust.

Just had a look at yours greeny, sounded awesome.

What bhp did you make on the rollers?

Sweet f**k all, it was under powered like almost every other RS Clio on the day, not that the de-cat would of helped gain much bhp, more for the torque. I made 10lb/ft more than a standard Clio with my exhaust/de-cat.

Makes me laugh RR's that give people figures of 180bhp+ with just a filter and cat-back, clearly something is wrong with either their RR or the flywheel calculation.

If you lived in Mexico you´d pay ten quid for a garage to solder a decat pipe in place of your cat. Like I did! You could use something like a cherrybomb glasspack as silenced decat pipe though. Although I didnt notice any sound difference with a decat.

It's a known fact that some dyno's tell lies.

Does the 182 manifold add more bhp? Seen one recently that had matched inlets, decat, ss exhaust, k&n induction kit with uprated CAF and a 182 mani - 188bhp.

Was your decat a silenced k-tec?
I know matched inlets add's a few bhp but my engine is only 8 months old so doubt it would make much difference!

I've got an unsilenced Ktec decat on a silenced Stealth. Acceleration does seem to have improved since the decat was fitted although that could be placebo. It makes an incredibly mean noise as it hits 3000rpm but above and below that line it's mainly a growl. I need to ring Ktec and see if they'll sell me an unsilenced mid-section for my Stealth as I want more noise :p

Took a local garage 1 hour to fit costing me £25.

I want the rasp really, I feel thats the only thing lacking from the new stealth.

In terms of sound, would the difference between the 172 and 182's manifold make a difference with the rasp etc?

The youtube videos above are of a 172 with 182 manifold. It sounds lovely imo.

Would a 172 manifold sound like that though??

de-cat adds alot of extra noise, but also alot of pops and torque ;) My 'silenced' de-cat made my exhaust around 40% louder on the motorways and under hard acceleration, if u can live with that get one for sure! As my car is used for everything I couldnt live with it, if I was single it would be fine :)

182 manifold is decent yes as its a 4-2-1 not just a 4-1 like the 172's, also matched inlets largely depend on how bad your current ones are, obviously if yours are awful at the moment you will see a bigger increase than others. After having my inlets off today mine arnt infact that bad compared with a few ive seen on here and other websites so im not going to bother for the time being!

188bhp seems alot for those mods tbh , maybe ill put my car on that same RR and see if i magically gain 10 :)

I'm not finding the exhaust to intrusive in all honesty. Yes you can hear it there at 3,000 rpm but with the stereo on, it's drowned out.

How do I check the inlets? Do I have to take the mani off?

You will need to take the plenum off the top, but usually its the lower part of the lower inlet thats the worst part.

The engine has only been in since November if that makes in difference lol.

What is the inlet?? (sorry not very technical lol)

I only have a standard exhaust but I am considering a decat. Would it be worth it for me? I dont intend on putting on a new exhaust for a while so I see this as a cheap fix to tie me over. Also what sort of decat would anyone recommend?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
