k4m engine

Im pretty sure that all the renault guru's are getting sick of me and my banter lol. im just looking into all my options for my car.
so far looked into supercharging a 1.2 and the f4r engine.
now wanting to know about the 1.6 16v (k4m) engine.
First of all, as the 1.6 clio's are rare the engines will be tricky to find. Im aware that the megane's have the same engine. Will a megane engine work properly due to different kind of throttle linkage ?? :s

Secondly, will the hubs on my clio (1.2 16v) 2001 work with the driveshafts from the k4m engine or will i need other ones? As I am intending to buy the Apex 60mm suspension kit for my car soon and will need to use the same hubs or be compatible with new ones...

I heard MATT BLACK can supply the kit for about £950+vat. What about fitting? Who does it? Yozzasport, MATT, k tec is a treck...

Will the dash loom need to be changed?

Is the cat on this engine different? I have a Scorpion cat back exhaust at the minute, will this still fit the new engine? I intend to change it but not straight away....

Finally, I have looked into mods for this engine. I would get a new exhaust done by AAS, maybe a decat too. Supersprint manifold, BMC or similar and possibly cams and remap at a later date. Would be happy for it to kick some VTR arse and not be too far behind a VTS. My mate has a Fiesta ST and is a bit of a nancy boy, another mate kept up with him in his VTR so would be good to be similar.

Any info to my questions would be great...edde, fred, MATT...
Cheers

Take advice from Matt and you'll be doing a 172 or TT conversion which is the best ideas realy.

First point first though

Megan have the same type of engine yep depending what version you use they use nboth the manaual throttle cable and the later ones the electric throttle bodies just like the Clio does so pick the right one of else pick the wrong one and either chnage your car to cable or the throttle body as such.

Hubs and shafts will work yep same for the gearbox although the 1.6 usess the stronger gearbox with sligtly different ratios IMo I'd chnage the box size wise there the same but there stronger so might as well.

Matt black can supply the stuff yep

Fitment yozzapsort gdi specails renault breakers (matts place) would fit it I'd bet £1.5k labour I'd recon same as a 172 (hence why not 172 it as for an extra £500 extar you get the uprated brakes and an extra 55hp out the box as such which is good value for money plus tunning buts are more common)

Dash loom best to chnage it for the 1.6 one otherwsie yep you can use your old one just need to change the UCH etc over but with wiring difference like a/c its worthwhile chnaging the whole loom for simplicity sake plus its gonna be free with the whole setup realy.

Cat and whole exhaust is different you could make yours work but no point will only restrict restrict power.

If you want cams migh as well do that before stickign the engine in along with the new cambelt which
1) you have to fit when doing cams
2) should do anyway when fitting a new engine as its easy when it out the engine.

IMO though fit a 2.0 for the cost and hastle weight sn't very different hp is 55more and vs a 1.6 with cams etc its still quicker as stock.

if i had an apex suspension kit and the uprated brake kit on my car that k tec sell, these wudnt fit on the 2 litre hubs??
would i have to get custom hubs made up for the new engine's driveshafts to work?

They won't fir the 2.0 hubs and stock 2.0 brakes are better anyway than the uprated stuff you have.

The gearbox mounts are in the same place regardless so you can use your old 1.2 shafts and hubs or 172 hubs and shafts with either the 172 gearbox or your cars gearbox and either the 1.2 or 172 engine will mate up to either the 1.2 or 172 gearbox.

So you could have
1.2 hubs and shafts
172 hubs and shafts

1.2 gearbox
172 gearbox

172 rengine
1.2 engine

In any combination you want.

so effectively, i could put 2 litre brakes on my car now?

No for 2.0 brakes you need 2.0 shafts as well (form memory the shafts are different thickness when they go in the hubs.
Also you need the different suspension or to bodge your suspension to fit.

mini-valver

K4M is a very tuneable engine if you don't mind spending money to get rid of the s**t inlect tract and plenum.

i wudnt mind the 1.6, just see how things go from now till i decide.
edde, if i go for the f4r, what lowering springs would give a good drop and handle as good as standard or better as my car is VERY high at the moment and looks w**k.

  2003 172 cup
you must be on drugs , why dont you stop wasting money on trying to make a 1.2 fast , and with the money you save you could actually have something descent
