Keep head unit running during ignition turnover.

  Clio 16v 1.2
My mate has a pugeot 207 that keeps the head unit running even during ignition (i.e. turning the key to start the engine).

My head unit has bluetooth and pairs with my phone, but i find it really annoying that when i turn my engine off or turn it on, the power to the head unit gets cut, so im forced to keep my engine running say at traffic lights. This is beacuse it takes a short while for pairing to occur.

Is there any way that i prevent this from happenning. I would still like the head unit to turn itself off when i remove the key from the ignition and not keep running.

The only way you will do it (iirc) is to use a permanant live instead of the switched live.

But the downside is, it will always stay on until you turn it off. So if the volumes all the way down and you get out the car and forget to turn it off, you will have a flat battery.

Is there nowhere that i could splice off from that doesn't get power when the key is removed?

Your headunit will already be getting a permenant live from the iso harness. Just run the ignition (red wires) onto this as well. Although you might find it best to run a bit of cable from the battery for this as I'm not sure how the current cable will hold out. I did this on my last car and it worked okay for me.

yeh you just need to run the permanent live to both inputs on the hu, but like mt says, its to protect the headunit so i wouldnt do it.

Also, i never new people turned off there engines at traffic lights lol.

Hypothetical scenario, sometimes I'm on the phone and I get to where I'm going, but have to leave my engine running so that I can finish my call without being unpaired from the head unit!

Hmm, seems annoying that such a simple feature is excluded :(

Link the permanent live to the switched input of the stereo but make sure you fit a 12v surge protector so that the head unit remains protected.
Oh and remember to disconnect and 'make safe' the no longer required switched feed.

If you wanted to get really technical you could use the disconnected switched feed to control a timer unit, so that once the key is removed you get say 10 minutes (or whatever you wish) of permanent feed to the stereo. Once this time elapses it then cuts power thus preventing the flat battery too.

Quite like this idea mate! Any idea where I can get the parts from?

Cheers!
