Keep the Clio, strip & track it or buy something else?

As the Clio will become a second car very shortly due to the arrival of my company car, I have a number of options.

I want a second car to maintain my no claims and some fun!

The Clio is a 2002 full fat with 62k. I paid £6400 for it 3 years ago & would guess it's worth about £3500 plus £1000 in parts (Turinis, V6 spoiler, matched inlet etc.).

Do I:

1. Get a Golf GT TDI 170 company car, £150ish per month, keep the Clio & strip it and a few more mod's for track days & hill climbs?

2. As per 1. but sell the Clio & get something else dedicated to track (Saxo VTS, early Impreza etc.). Budget would be about 3k with a few mod's on top.

3. Pay nothing extra for the company bus and get somthing like a VX220 which I can track & enjoy at weekends.

I'm swaying towards option 1 right now as the company car will be with me for 3 years & I know the Clio inside out.

Thoughts?

Yep. Any VAG diesel will do you fine. Selling the Clio to buy something else will lose you value...keep it but don't spend any money on it, just take everything out of it...you'll have a blast.

Already got Sportlines, Strut brace (for what it's worth), DS2500's etc so I don't think much else needs doing.

Let's say it's worth £3500, would a £3500 Saxo be any better?

I owned a VTS for 6 months before i bought the Ph1 and it was a great car, seriously good fun and unbelievably quick for a 1600cc.

It sits quite a bit lower than the 172 and i think thats the reason it felt really quick as it was so low to the ground, to be honest mate if you properly strip the clio itll be quicker than the saxo (just)

Just been out in my mates Impreza. I think the Clio may have to go just for the ease of mods on the Impreza if nothing else.

I wouldn't recommend getting a different car of similar power becasue it's an 'unkown'. When you buy it you don't know what hidden costs are lurking around the corner but you know what to expect from your clio.

didn't know they made 182s in 2002?

What car would you be getting in option 3?
