Key cuting???????????

Hi,i was out battling my way through the christmas sales with my littlun this morning and popped into a key cutting shop as i only have one key for my 172 and was quite horrified at the outcome!!

The chap said they were a main dealer only affair and would set me back over £100.

Is this correct ??

If not where can i get a key done??

To get a simple key cut wont be that much, but to have it programmed so it will work the alarm will be way over £100.

Right,is it a pain in the ring to get the alarm removed as its only gonna be a track car with occaisional road use????

Immobiliser is built into the ECU as far as I know.

The key fob has a transponder in it that needs to be programmed. Renault job.

Do the batterys in the keys go flat very often??

Immobiliser is built into the ECU as far as I know.

If i were to upgrade the ecu then that would do away with the immobiliser then???

£140 for a replacement key coded to the vehicle, as said will be alot cheaper just to get a blade cut but that won't start the engine, just take the steering lock off.

Wouldnt do me a lot of good though except let me winch the car on to the back of my truck to get it home!!!

As i said,ive not lost the key,just covering my bases!!

I will get a blade cut like you said though just so i can move the car if the worse comes to the worse!!
