Key fob problem

Basically I can only unlock my car using the fob when I'm stood right next to the car. If I stand 2 meters away it will not work. It's 100% not the key batteries as they are brand new. The key is also brand new. The guy at Renault told me it may be the alarm causing the problem. An interfering signal or something. Anyone any ideas as he looked like he didn't have a clue!

Open up the fob and pull out the metal tabs that contact the battery a bit - so they're more of a v shape than a straight line.

Careful not to pull them off though.

It's a brand new key mate. This was happening with my old key too.

You'd have thought it was the receiver in the car or something. But I have no idea.
