Key locks

This is something I noticed lastnight.

I had mine and my mates 172's next to eachother. I said to him... oh my god, your key locks have been smoothed off. He then had a look at the passengers side but that key lock was still there so the drivers one is not there but the passenger one is. His 172 is on a 53 plate. My 172 on the other hand has key locks on both sides (51 plate).

Is this a fault or is/was this done for a reason (from the factory)?

It was a cost cutting measure.

They only need one lock for law so since its a French car they removed the lock from there passenger side which is out drivers as such.

Saved a fari few quid when you think about it less wiring less time etc.

  renault clio
Hi. I recently bought a Renault Clio 1.2RN 1998 (R) reg for my daughter as a first car. The key fob does not work at all and does not even light up at all. I took it to a Renault dealer and he tried changing the battery but it still did not light up. So he has suggested a new fob (£140). For the last couple of weeks the engine would not turn over first time sometimes. It was like it was trying to engage but not kicking in. I havejust had the car fully serviced and this problem has not happened again since. My question is could the fob be responsible for the car not starting sporadically? Do I need a new fob? Is there anything else I can do to try the fob to see if its useless for remote purposes?
