Right. need some things clearing up...

  • if i buy a key say off ebay with all innards in etc but has been programmed to another car - can it be re programmed?
  • is it true i have to get my immobiliser key code from renault?
  • Whats a decent price for a new key (not paying 150 renault price).
  • Where is the key reciever in the car? the infared thing?

just starts the engine. iv read your post to the other guy about his key... what do you go to the lock smiths and ask for?

besides if i loose the plip key i can always have another one made with my spare transponder can't i?

this guy at one locksmiths said if i lost my plip key i would have to spend 900 quid on getting my ECU immobiliser thing reprogrammed:S

think he was lying... N*b lol

Well my local place has a little black box that they plug your key into and it reads like a 32 digit number off onto the screen which is then written onto the donor key and it worked fine for me to start the engine (which he said it would of course) I just used it as a spare but it doesnt have a plip.

Edit:mad: it might not be 32 that was a guess it was quiote a lot of numbers tho!

  1. No.
  2. As far as I know yes.
  3. It's a Renault only item if you want a 100% genuine working key.
  4. The immobiliser transponder is around the ignition barrel from memory.

If you only have 1 plip key lets hope you never lose it or you'll be unable to disarm your alarm if it's for the 182.
