Key wont turn in the ignition barrell - clio 182

As above,

Unlocked the car this morning, and when putting the key in the ignition it wouldnt turn at all to even allow me to start it.

The imobiliser light on the dash was flashing red on and off, maybe 2 flashes each second.

After locking the car and u locking a load of times, it randomly then allowed me to turn the key, and the engine started straight away as normal.

Any ideas what could have caused this so i can either get it solved or know what to do if it happens again.

I'm sure you've thought of it but.. steering lock? have you tried turning the wheel as you turn the key.

I did, but now you have me doubting myself as it was early and it is Monday, ha ha.
No, im sure the wheel wasnt locked thinking back.
