Kickback through the lever.

  Peugeot 306 HDi
Morning.

My friend is now looking at buying virtually the same car as me (1.2 16v Dynamique) and took one for a test drive yesterday but was concerned because when you change gear and lift the clutch (he keeps his hand on the lever), there is kickback felt through the gear stick. I've now tried mine, driving it the same way as he does and it does the same. He also drove a 54 reg which had a similar trait yesterday. Apparently if you lift off the accelerator quickly it does the same. As this is not my driving style, I've not noticed it and the car felt identical to mine when I drove it...

Does anyone know what causes this or if it is a problem? Thanks

When you lift off isn't it just increased resistance from the engine that causes the gear stick to move?

Nothing to worry about I am sure.

That is what I think. He thinks it is the mounts though as most other cars don't seem to do it. I think it is just a case of different degrees of stress on different gearboxes due to different engine and gearbox designs in different cars. Any other suggestions though?

Just realised how times I've used the word different...oops. Hope you get the gist of what I'm saying.

Renault and their chocolate engine mounts they all do it as standard nothing to worry about. Polybush the mounts (specifically the dogbone), problem solved.

It may be the engine mounts then.

Even if it is they aren't expensive but maybe worth mentioning to the garage he buys off.

Excuse my ignorance but what is polybush? Thanks

Ps Is a dealer likely to sort it if asked?

Thanks, we/he'll bear it in mind. Personally I'm not bothered by mine but for him it is quite important. Cheers for all the help!
