Knack to setting gear linkage?

Is there a knack to setting up the gear linkage on a 1*2? Had to remove mine (undone the pinch bolt)
And now its hard to get them smooth. Which gears are selected when the selector is pushed into the positions under the car? If that makes sense.....

Where is "neutral" ?

took me an hour of fiddling. i fitted the rod. stuck it in fifth and adjusted it. then checked it against reverse. lots of fiddling and you can do it. get a mate to help.

I put the gearbox in neutral and got the rod in the middle of the free space around it. Tightened it up and checked it didn't hit anything.

Ah it appears for people searching the forums.. Wack it in 5th on the box side .. Then get a mate to hold the gearstick in 5th position and tighten worked 3rd time lol!
