Knock when engaging first gear??

Hi all,
I have searched but to no avail with exact problem.
When I engage first (put clutch in and move towards first gear) there is a loud knock or thud. This only happens in first and not when driving. The garage I got it from, while very good say it's an exhaust mount and can't be fixed. I don't buy this and am after advice and suggestions as to what it is or could be? Dog-bone mount? Gearbox shot??
Please help!!

Im getting the same knock on my cup. Like u say it knocks when engaging and nt moving.

I'm wondering whether the dog mount is to blame. The garage's Renault specialist says it's a quirk, but I'm not buying it. It's prob not doing any damage, but annoys me!

If its a slight clunk (not a knock) they all do it AFAIK.

Its like a clonk. Have to put a bit of extra force into the lever to engage it. It then clonks and its in.
