knocking noise on front end after exhaust fitted

  Clio 172 Cup
I fitted a ktec stealth and ktec decat yesterday and am getting a faint knocking noise from the front end when the car is driven hard above 4000 rpm, which you can feel through the steering wheel.

I have readjusted the exhaust a couple of times today, but it has not rectified the problem. It is definetly not hitting anything under the car.

Anyone have any ideas of what this could be?

Just a coincidence it has started happening since i changed the exhaust and front discs and pads.

Please help.

Jack the car iup and get someone to rev the engine see if you can recreate the sound when standing still.

The manifold can hit the steering rack when giving it some beans...... its very tight space wise. Sounds something like your new decat might be out of adjustment to me.

Is it as off the shelf item? ie janspeed etc? Try getting your hands between the decat/baulkhead its impossible!!

^^^spot on, just checked it on the ramp and your right there is only about 3 or 4 mm clearance.

so when the engine is revved hard it has the tendecy to tilt back which makes the flange on the manifold/cat pipe joint hit the heat shield on the steering column.

the solution to this is grinding some of the flange off to increase the clearance.

i really can't be arsed to take it apart, will get ktec to do it when I go and see them for the remap in a few weeks. i hope they do it for free as it their product and design fault.
