Knocking noise when turning the steering (Video included)

I have a knocking noise when the steering is being turned from lock to lock. Can anybody decipher what the noise is please?

I've got a trophy in ATM with this. I've narrowed it down to the rack.

chuck a second hand rack on mate.

I'd still have to get a garage to fit it though as its something I wouldn't be able to do. I think I read its a ball ache job. I take it tracking would need to be done again.

subframe off, pas fluid drained, swap racks. refitt, refill and blead. then alignment again.

It's about 4 hours inc alignment to do the rack.

Upon reading people have had a similar problem which turned out to be the rack bushes, could this be so?

I know the trophy I have in has brand new bushes and there isn't any play in anything, not to say its not the case in yours.

Have you jacked it off the deck yet and checked everything for play? You could do that yourself.

Have the very same noise in mine and am only after replacing everything in the front end

Mine also does that. I don't see a reason why tracking would need doing if you just used your old track rods.

If you can turn a spanner this isn't the worst job. It just consumes a little time

Please come and take my old rack. It's so lonely.

Can't remember if it was your thread or not but someone said inner track rod may cause this however I couldn't vouch for this.

Did you ever solve this issue? My car does the same noise, I presume it's the steering rack bushes?

Sorry daf, I meant to reply in here. I couldn't find a fault so I put it in the garage. The guy said it did it when he moved the car to drive onto the ramps, however once on the ramps the noise disappeared.

He got it up in the air and checked everywhere but couldn't find a fault. He lowered it, drove it again and got it up in the air and still couldn't find a fault. He said all my bushes wer in good condition and couldn't see any damage anywhere and that everything was tight and as it should be. Very odd.

Probably an internal fault in the rack then.

I believe mine is too heavy to be the rack bushes as well, even with the car in the air it's a really loud knock coming from the rack area
