Knocking/Rattle Noise!

Ok, when Im going along slowly on bumpy ground, theres this awful knocking/rattling sound coming from the front of the car - it never used to do it!

First time I noticed it was going to York along that great road which is likely to shake anything out.. from then, its been getting worse and worse.

Also, when I brake, it often makes a "knock" as if somethings moving - now this could be unreleated (I think I know why for this one).. but, if it could be releated to the knocking on bumpy ground.. thats probably whats causing it..anmd not what I think it is.. if that makes sense.

Any ideas? Driveshafts? It has clunked before going round sharp corners.. but dunno if its something else.. heh.

Any way I can test to see if its what you say it is? I know Driveshaft you drive in a circle.. and it gets really bad.. but I aint had chance to try this yet.

Maybe exhaust?? Have a look underneath and check all the rubbers are still on properly! Give it a shake to see if its loose an knocking.

Wouldnt it rattle also if I revved car up on spot?

sounds like a ball joint, jack up the front of the car, grab the top and bottom of the wheel and see if theres any play by trying to rock the wheel.

if you do it yourself it should only cost about 12 quid for a new one.....might be worth getting the tracking done after youve replaced it though.

with car on decks, get a decent pry bar and use it between, bottom of hub carrier and wishbone, tight against ball joint, Give it a wiggle and look for movement, thats how mot tester check them, it defo sounds like one from your discription

Yeah my car did the same and when I had new wheel bearings fitted they found the drivers side ball joint shot to pieces.

I had a track rod ball joint done on my valver it made this horrible rattle noise coming from the front end sounded like a metal bracket banging around could it be that???
