Ktec Stealth or Custom Exhaust?

  Add me 2 ur PS3 - Lylak
Hello chaps,

I've got a bit of a dilemma. My ph2 172 exhaust is blowing, and it's probably got about a month left before it sounds horrendous so I'm going to go with an aftermarket option.

Now, I've got a mate whose Dad owns a custom exhaust garage and makes them to spec. You can get him to do what you want and what noise you want at what revs etc.

He said he'd be able to get a backbox done for about £200, and a cat back system would be around £400. To me that sounds pretty expensive??

I've looked at the other options and I've seen the K-Tec name banded about a fair few times. I'm looking at the Stealth for £300+ VAT. I'd be able to get it for £300, but I'd need to pay someone to fit it.

There is also the YozzaSport stealth exhaust, this is about £330.

What do I go for?? :dead: :S

i love my ktec stealth

not heard a yozza - heard from people they are loud

The Stealth I heard sounded like a mini Ferrari. Very cool! What would the price be once you've bought it, had it delivered and then fitted? You might not be making much of a saving.

I've not heard anything about the Yozza system on 172s, but I've heard one on a 197 and it sounded awesome, and the guy reckoned the fit and finish were very good too.

Your mate's Dad could still be worth a thought if he can tailor the sound etc. Then you can get it exactly as you want, and if you have any problems then it's very easy to sort them out.

I've probably been no help, but it is a tricky decision.

I'm beginning to look at exhausts too. From what I have read, the Yozza stealth system is as quiet as standard, the Yozza Quiet system is quite loud and the Yozza Loud is err.... Very Loud! :)

There's also GDI, Milltek and as you say K-Tec which come seemingly well recommended, though the clips I've heard of the K-Tec are quite 'buzzy' whereas I prefer a deeper, 'burble' sort of a sound. Also, your choice depends on what you want to do with the tailpipe - keep it hidden, hang it below the bumper or have it recessed in..... Yozza and Milltek seem to hang below, GDI and KTec can be recessed. Then there's other custom places like Pro-Speed who will do whatever you want.

Have I missed any?

Choices, choices....

I'd be in the same boat here, so many to choose from!

That price for custom is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too much especially if its your mates dad thats doing it, tight bugger not giving is sons mate a few quid off the quote lol

Going by other folks threads on here the average for a good custom seems to be £250

Go for Ktec Stealth.
I bought one the other day after months of deciding and weighing up the other options.

What swung it was i have a 182 manifold and the Ktec was the only one i could see with adjustable front pipe so it bolted straight up without having to mess about welding etc, its proven in terms of performance, good quality, plus IMO has the best fit in terms of the centre section to back box join is on a straight NOT on the bend over the back axle like all the other systems. (less chance of blowing or moving)

One concern was the noise. Some vids doing the rounds make it sound really raspy and tinny but first impressions are that isnt the case. Only used the car about 3 times but it gives a deep tone not raspy at all and im running a cut down Janspeed decat all be it a silenced one plus the 182 manifold.
Its a lot quieter than the Magnex / Prospeed back box set up i was running too. Comes on song lovely when you boot it

Things might change when it gets coaked up sound wise but by first impressions i can highly recommend this exhaust

This might be of interest. Second hand but might be worth a gamble at under the half price of a new system
