KTR Tuning Packages! WTF!

the 1st SC car that had been done had done 100k and has now done about 13k miles and is still on OE clutch and same box, no problems.....

obviously the gearbox is a known weak point anyway, so im guessing it comes down to how the person driving actually changes gear more than the extra power? i.e pulling away hard in 1st and banging it through the gears is gona kill it alot quicker than fast driving with a better shift.

It'd have a very similar bhp/ton as a standard M3, and you'd still be driving a clio, you wouldn't be showing up many M3s...!

I'm putting my money into buying an e46 M3, performance, style, refinement, bragging rights, and i won't loose too much cash when it comes to selling on.

Saying that, the thought of a S/C clio is excellent, it's just not for me, doesn't make much sense, financially.

Don't get me wrong I think M3s are amazing cars, and it does sound better when you tell your mates you have an M3 instead of a clio which you have just spent 4k on modding. But an e46 M3 must be pushing 15k ? his clio will be 6k. Not lossing money on a 15k car is great if you have that money in the first place!

I think the clio would still have the M3 on track (but i guess it depends on the track and obviously the driver) Down the b roads the clio would be gone.
To live with the bmw wins easily, although i imagine people will try and race you all the time which would piss me off. At the end of the day even if the M3 was quicker it will be close and still makes the M3 driver look a little silly.

I'm not having a go at you and I hope you enjoy your M3 when you get it, I can't afford one and am just jealous!!:eek:

I'd love to have a run with a SC clio :) Seems it would be close too 100, just depends who gets the better start ( I cant launch my M3 for s**t lol)

I think there cool, I nearly had one lol, 4k would be a bargin back then :D

Forgot to say, i have never bought a car that makes sense financially. Only cos I wanna have fun. Don't get me wrong I aint rich but when i buy a car fun is at the not/ near the top of the list. What i will sell it for is bottom of the list! But im young a stupid!

If you buy an M3 with finances in mind then you are doing it for the wrong reason.

Track i think is alot more to do with driver, but ti think b roads the smaller clio will have a huge advantage. My mate had a 535d ( i think) with M kit (whatever that means) and down a tight b road me and my other mate were so far ahead it was embarrassing. I had a 306 1.8 and my mate has a fiesta 1.3. It was all because our cars were smaller narrower and changed direction quickly.

Yeah the internetz stats are all over the place, I got mine on the weigh bridge at oulton lol!

Ask Hughesclio on that one, hes been in mine and Pauls SC 172's and he owns an M3, he reckons his M3 wont keep up from 0-100 but after 100 it will pull back. He took me for a spin in his M3 and I agreed. Also the Clio feels ALOT faster as power delivery is alot more violent!

Anyway!!! I WISH PEOPLE WOULD STOP COMPARING CLIOS TO M3'S! REAR WHEEL DRIVE VS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE AND COUPE VS HATCHBACK! DIFFERENT CAR ALTOGETHER! (not getting at you chris, people in general) :D

Not at all, resale value is always a big factor for me when buying a car.

Buying an audi tt with fun in mind is doing it for the wrong reason, lol.

Ha ha at the TT comment, but maybe a could learn something from you and then i wouldn't be so broke all the time, but i do love my car!

what torque are the SC putting out? thats what the clio never had before lol!

depends who did it (primarily mapping) and which head it runs. ph1 engine makes the best with around 220lb/ft think the 182 made 215, both at 0.5bar

the majority are making 200lb/ft....so far ;)

i was wondering the whole M3 thing. lets compare it to something FWD, supercharged and light weight like a mini cooper.

back on subject, i want a supercharger.

Andy/ktec, my car regularly makes 192bhp on powerstations rollers, and did when you were up there in the summer in your mk1. my question, the car had a group N remap by ktec about 4 years ago by previous owner, ive since added a new intake setup, matched inlets blah blah.

in the long run, im after getting it supercharged, or at least itb'd and cam'd but in the short term am thinking of upgrading to your new ecu setup (£980 jobbie). how much am i, if at all, going to benefit from this keeping the current intake setup until finances allow the intake conversion?

its a ph1 so already got the cable throttle

Theres only 2 cars out of 6 that are making 200lbft (adams and dannys and there cars run less boost than the rest)! The other 4 SC cars including mine are making more so I make that the minority that are making 200lbft, NOT the majority ;)

Just to add aswell the ph1 making 220lbft and the 182 making 215lbft was run on a different dyno to the rest, so unfair to compare! On the same dyno it MIGHT be a different story????? :rolleyes:

Ive covered 5000 miles in mine and mines running 0.6bar - 260 bhp now. No problems as yet apart from 2 gearboxes so far - in 7 months, but I know someone who rebuilds them for me for £160 - Bonus!

IMO drive one and you will want it! If you cant drive one then just a passenger ride WILL persuade you! Trust me, its immense! :D


wtf - It does have a clutch, like! You must drive that thing like you stole it fairly often to get through it like that without any track abuse tbh

Not really, I drive it hard but not constantly! Ive now got a 182 box in with the bolt on diff and so far its STRONG ;)

Dont tell me your suprised that 260bhp and 210lbft will be easy on the gearbox that renault make out of toffee! :S

Life expectancy would take a big I would imagine but 7 months on a rebuilt box is probably a record for a daily drive surely? hats off lol

Danny instead of just bad mouthing RStuning 24/7 on here why dont you jut settle it with a dyno shootout? two cars, 1 dyno.

I could make a graph claiming a car i tuned (i dont tune cars xD) made 250lbft torque at 2000rpm. If i posted them on here does that mean they are true/correct? Posting graphs mean nothing.


In terms of the OP. Ktecs new kits look very good indeed for the money and i look forward to seeing some of the stuff at autosport show.

If you have the money, go for it :)

Why do people always compare Clios with cars in a different class and size. In its' standard set up it's a car that has punched above it own weight with some larger cars which still brings a smile to my face atleast Audi A4's Vectra and Mondeo man and a few Mercs when they been sat up your rear on the Motorway and then try to block you in. It's fun and agile enjoy it. Shouldn't you be comparing it to the likes of VXR Corsas, Mini Coopers and such similar sized cars (I consider Golfs and Civics a size above imo)

Back to the SC have they come up with one where you can keep the A/C as others that have had a SC fitted have had the motor removed, as the thought of losing that is tending to push me towards the Turbo Conversion ( I do lots of motorway driving and have been stuck in many a traffic jam through the summer)

Simple answer: because in terms of performance, it can be!

A supercharged clio has a very good power to weight ratio, near enough equal to an e46 M3, far higher than todays hot hatches (including the new Focus rs). Not to be underestimated.

I should also point out that Jon has a different set up to our finished kit.
