lambda info

  Ph 1 172
okies ive tried searching but the search facilities is not fantastic to be honest on here lol! but im looking for some info on the lambda sensors im buying a decat tomorrow for my phase 1 172 (twin cat but its only got the 1 lambda sensor inbetween the cat and manifold not one after the cat inbetween the cat and mid silencer)
now after doings some research i have realised that the second lambda sensor if you have one does not do very much(is this right??), but the first sensor is important for fuel mapping and if it recognises a problem it sends the car into limp mode is that right? would this happen if you fit a decat to your phase 1 172 with only 1 sensor? and are there any risk to the car by fitting a decat long term or short term?

and does the engine light come on if you only have one sensor?

sorry for the long winded nature of this thread :)

Correct, yes
now after doings some research i have realised that the second lambda sensor if you have one does not do very much(is this right??),
basically yes, correct
but the first sensor is important for fuel mapping and if it recognises a problem it sends the car into limp mode is that right?
I've never heard of a car going in to limp mode based on any out-of-limits readings from either lambda. Normally the car will just not realise and fuel badly (poor MPG) or it will ignore the lambdas and run a safe map with loads of fuel in it. Not limp mode, just expensive mode.
would this happen if you fit a decat to your phase 1 172 with only 1 sensor? and are there any risk to the car by fitting a decat long term or short term?
No risks whatsoever. Probably the best 1*2 to fit a decat to
and does the engine light come on if you only have one sensor?
No, How can it? The sensor is upstream of the decat, the car doesent even know it's there

no worries. Paragraphs would've been nice ;)
