Lamda sensor problem

I recently posted about a problem i have noticed since getting a magnex fitted. I think the mechanic who fitted the exhaust damaged the Lamda sensor. My local specilalist garage do not have the correct pod to hook my car up to, to run a diagnostic check. They only have the equipment to test clios up to 1998. Mine is a 2000 clio 172. He has said they could hook the car up but it may not pick up the problem. Do i spend the money and let them look at it or do i take it to Renault who i want to avoid like the plague, as my local renault is quite far away and they are useless...What do you guys think ????

Their XR25 machine wont do it.

If they are a decent garage, they should be able to check the lambda output voltage with a multimeter......

what would you guys thinki should do. Let the garage have a look at it ( they will be charging me of course) but they may not be able to tell for certain the sensor is faulty or take it into renault. Dont want to wats time and money paying a garage to tell me they arent sure if the sensor is faulty...

use a multimeter....it should measure 500 milivolts at idle.

Dont need a fancy gizmo.....500mV is stoich, 150mV lean, 750mV rich.

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo

if its the first lamda sensor or an early one with just one sensor anyway then the reading should constantly fluctuate between 250mv and 850 mv. make sure the engine is warm though and it has been running for a few minutes. if the reading doesnt fluctuate (stuck at one constant mv figure) then the sensor is faulty.
