Laptop - 160GB Seagate disc + Vista Ultimate 32

I have long been considering a fresh install on this laptop, but I could also use some more disc space for swapping usenet files in and out of external discs. So I figure it could be a good time to get Vista OEM (with a drive)

Logical or ghey? I only use this laptop for watching media, downloading, surfing etc. No gaming to speak of as I have TheBeast2 for that, and the tiny Vaio TX3 for work, which for now will both continue to run XP.

Will Newsbin Pro, Quick PAR, WinRAR et al, all run flawlessly under Vista?
