Laptop issues?

So I know very little about this type of thing so any help would be most appreciated.

every now and then when I turn on my laptop, before it boots into windows a message come up about a drive needs checking or something, press any key to skip. I let it run for a bit once and it came up with a huge list of files being deleted so I freaked and just turned it off. Ever since then I've just pressed a button to skip the scan/check.

so basically, any ideas what it is? Am I safe to let it run or am I going to loose loads of stuff? Should I just carry on skipping it?

It's check disk. A part of windows. You need to let it run

Ok, so what are all the files it's deleting? Why is it doing it and what does it achieve?

It not delete anything. It's checking files for consistency. Normally occurs if you switch your laptop off incorrectly ie remove battery or holding power button in.

Also checks for any bad sectors on your hdd
