Laptop Problem - Hard drive filling fast

The hard drive on my laptop is filling up fast as f**k. I can literally sit and hit F5 in my computer and watch available space drop by about 100mb every 10 seconds. Wtf is causing it? I'm thinking virus of some sort tbh. Running AVG just now but if it hasn't picked it up already, I'm not holding out for it finding anything.

How much RAM does your lappy have and what operating system are you using? If its not blessed with large amounts of RAM and running Vista your OS might be using a lot of space as virtual memory, that said 100mb every 10 seconds sounds excessive. Is the drive near capacity? if it is your OS could be having to shunt around large amounts of files to find space and running out of RAM again and having to use drive space to handle the stuff its moving - perversely that would make the problem worse! Struggling to think what else could be causing your HD to fill so fast, sounds odd.

I have 2GB or RAM. It's not virtual memory thats the problem. Out of the 100GB available, there should be between 50-60GB left.

The hard drive is in three partitions (100GB each). I'm running Vista Basic.

Lol, there will be f**k all writing to it now, it's full. I'll run it just now, cheers.

Ah cheers Mike, but I got it sorted. Downloaded something called TreeSize Pro, and I found at 76GB Realplayer file. Deleted it and all is good now.

Lol, ah yeah. Didn't even click it :o . Pretty handy piece of software though.

Dont use AVG :P
It doesnt find bugger all
Try Avast, much better, doesnt use as much RAM and scans your PC properly
