Laptop Processor advice needed

Am after a sub-£500 laptop for basic internet use.

Basically I want to know the difference between Pentium Dual Core processors and Pentium Core 2 Duo processors.

Is the Core 2 Duo a big step up from the Dual Core performance-wise? Worth spending extra on?

Core2 processors are better design, they have better battery life and run cooler than pentium "d" processors which are based on pentium 4 designs.

a pentium d isn't dual core though.... there is core duo and core duo 2 isn't there? and core duo 2 is better. look on tomshardware for stats...

pentium d is dual core, like the Pentium D 945.
