Laptop screen doesn't turn on?

  BMW M5 & E36
Think it's fooked :(

When I hit the power button, all lights come on as normal, fan comes on, discs make a noise etc, but there's absolutely nothing on the screen. I've tried it with/without the battery in and still nothing.

Had a look on the HP site and it says to reseat the RAM and if not then to contact them for further assistance. I'd sooner not break it further trying to remove something that I havent got a clue about. It's outside of the HP 1 year warranty but within the 2 that John Lewis gave me when I bought it, receipt could take some finding though.

Any ideas? :(

Same thing happened to mine a while back... Connected it up to my TV with VGA cable so I could see the screen... Updated the BIOS via the internet and that fixed it for me... Might be worth a try

sounds like what happened to mine. Hp has extended the warrenty on my laptop to 2 years. Display card on motherboard failed on original laptop and on replacement too! Check hp website for your model number for recall

if you hold it in direct light or a torch to the screen can you faintly see the screen? also does it work on an external screen? if so its prob the screen inverter which powers the lcd back light.

For sure check it on another (external) screen. My HP laptop suffered a dead screen a few months back.

Nothing wrong with HP we use loads and have few issues and the warranty service is one of the best

Try Function & F8 that usually switches video mode but look on your keybopard for the monitor picture and FN then the key

  Better than yours. C*nt.
What model of laptop is it? If it's one of the ones with a specific nVidia set of chips then it's covered under extended warranty.

Model is Pavillion DV6552ea. Not had chance to connect to an external monitor yet.

BUT...

Just tried booting now, having left it a day, and its on. WTF??

I shall keep you updated with if it carries on.

Could prossibly be the Graphics card thats failed? Try as said above and plug it into an external screen? If that doesnt work then the graphics card is away.

If something does come up, try updating the BIOS via the internet. If thats not it, then it might be the actual connection from the motherboard the the screen which might be loose or faulty which requires opening it up to check.
