laptop touchpad HELP!!!!

  1998 BMW e46 323i
friend's laptop has had a usb mouse plugged in and now removed. the thing is, the touchpad has become disabled, and they don't have the usb mouse.

How can I enable the touchpad only using the keyboard?

It's running xp and the touchpad has a red X across the touchpad icon on the toolbar.

my guess would be just use the windows button to open start menu>my computer. then find the utility in the program files or goto control panel

I'd got that far already, but was stuck on how to select options/menus without the cursor/arrow.

Managed to figure out using the tabs key worked in scrolling all option headers.

All sorted now.

My best guess is (if you're running Windows):

1. Start > Control Panel
2. Highlight Mouse and press Enter
3. Use Cntrl+tab to scroll to the 'Hardware' tab
4. Use tab to highlight 'Properties', press Enter
5. Use tab to highlight the drop down box, and then use the arrows to scroll through and find 'enabled'
6. Use tab to highlight 'OK' and hit enter.

Not sure if that will actually work or not.

Also, this will depend on if there is only one mouse found in the 'Hardware' tab in step 3, if there is more than one, find out which one it is, highlight it, and then go to properties.

Bugger, you must've posted as I'd started writing.

Took my long enough to retrace the steps.
