Do you get screen burn on LCD's or is it mainly Plasma's

Say f i had music choice channel on all day where the image never changes would this cause screen burn? or would i need it on 24/7 for this to happen.

Its just got me worrying after not long having the tv and have been having this channel on mostly all day for the past week.

Thanks

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Plasmas only, and even then modern ones aren't particularly suceptible to it - you have to be downright stupid to burn one.

I'm pretty sure it is, would take a very long time to get the image burnt, but it would happen. LCD monitors have screensavers for a reason. Do you have external speakers? What channel is it displaying and for how long on average?

You won't get image burn. You won't even get image burn on CRTs anymore, they solved that issue years ago. That's why it's daft when you see people with screensavers, they're completely unneccessary these days.

LCD monitors DO NOT burn. Fact.

We have a 'monitor' on a monitor at work and it displays the same image 24hrs a day, 365 days a year with no screensaver, and I just minimised it and there's no burnt image. And the monitor is 3 years old.

Identical, just cheaper as no tuner components. Same panels, typically larger due to the application.

The only reason I said it is because we have a pretty old LCD at work with a burnt image on it..must be old technology, I will check the date of its build and try to get a picture.

If you're worried, you could just turn the tv off and leave the music through the speakers? Will save electricity :)

:banghead:...Never thought of that ill have to switch the optical from my tv to the sky box optical out....that ways its always on, sorted :)

The facts..

CRT still suffer from screen burn, but it would have to be a static image for a loooooong time.. have a look at some old atm's and you will see burn in on their crt monitors

LCD's can suffer image retention as the pixels can get stuck.. it is however unlikely and is the least likely out of CRT, Plasma and LCD to have problems like this.

Plasmsa does and will burn in. Modern systems have inbuild protection in most cases. As said above though you would need to leave a static image on the screen for a day or two before you ran into major problems. Plasma's do however show signs of image retention after only 1-2 hours but this will normally clear once you go back to normal TV.

For the record, I have a plasma ! in order of image quality plasma is 2nd best.

1. CRT
2. Plasma
3. LCD

new lcd and plasmas have pixel shift where it moves the images slightly to help prevent screen burn
